PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim King (ranked 4441 p4p, 6099 weight class) and Duke Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke Savage has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duke Savage!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Savage tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Savage tries a low kick but King avoids it.
King has his takedown stuffed
and Savage connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

It looks like Jim King has been cut.

Savage rushes King and presses him up against the cage.

King has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Savage uses from the top position.
Savage wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King is striking but Savage is not phased and passes to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Savage is keen to just control but King is a slippery customer.
King preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
King is looking to improve his position.
King is staying active underneath Savage, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Savage might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control King haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Savage tries a head kick but it misses.

King moves into the clinch.
King jumps guard but Savage stands there with King around his waist. King gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Savage escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
King dodges the punch combination from Savage.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Savage connects with an inside leg kick.
Savage lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Savage lands the left hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Savage manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
King is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Savage for as long as he can get away with.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Savage swivels though and keeps the full guard.

King stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Savage tries a head kick but it misses.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Duke Savage dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jim King's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

King fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Savage digs a good hook to King's body.

Savage lands a left and a right that send King crashing to the mat, dazed. Savage thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

King shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Savage's guard.

Savage kicks King off and gets to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King circles away from the clinch attempt.
Savage has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
King keeps the fight on the outside.
Savage throws a series of punches but King moves out of range.
King steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Savage. That one must have hurt.
Savage lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Duke Savage seems to be getting the better of the standup.

King instigates a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King slowing the pace effectively.
King is trying to pull guard but Savage has him pressed against the cage.
King tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Savage smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Savage lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
King goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Savage throws a sloppy head kick
and King counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Savage scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. King doesn't seem bothered though.
Savage is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nice body kick there by Savage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King throws a head kick but Savage moves out of range.
Savage takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
King shoots in looking for a takedown. Savage tries to sprawl out of it but King keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Savage manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Duke Savage is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Savage throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! King crumples to the floor and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Duke Savage!
