PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bina Raga (ranked 5248 p4p, 3773 weight class) and Detektyw Pikachu (ranked 539 p4p, 439 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Detektyw Pikachu!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pikachu doesn't manage to clinch there - Raga circles away.
Pikachu fails with a takedown attempt.

Pikachu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Pikachu tries for a kimura but Raga is defending well.

Pikachu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Raga, who protects the arm well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pikachu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Raga is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Raga wants to control but Pikachu postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Raga is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pikachu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Raga tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pikachu wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pikachu tries to move into full mount but can't pass Raga's legs.

Pikachu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Raga has escaped the position, nice work there.

Pikachu is trying to get an arm triangle but Raga is defending well.
Raga is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pikachu asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Raga tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Pikachu working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Raga manages to reverse the position and now he's in Pikachu's guard. Nice work there by Raga.
Pikachu is trying to control the position but Raga postures up.

Pikachu has his foot on Raga's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Raga works his way back into a safe position though.

Pikachu looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Raga tries to free his leg and advance position but Pikachu is retaining full guard.
Our spies down at at EFC Gym inform us that Pikachu has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Pikachu looking to hit a scissor sweep but Raga is one step ahead there.
Pikachu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Raga stands and steps away. Pikachu gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Pikachu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Raga is fending him off so far but Pikachu persists. Nope, Raga circles away and we're back to standing.
Raga leaves Pikachu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bina Raga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Detektyw Pikachu.
A solid leg kick lands there for Raga.

Pikachu closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Raga quickly recovers to half guard.

Pikachu prevents Raga from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pikachu is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Raga wants to improve his position but Pikachu is controlling well.
Raga wants to control but Pikachu is keeping busy.

Pikachu is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pikachu passes the guard and advances to mount!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Detektyw Pikachu dominated that round.
That's time! Raga's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Pikachu darts in looking for a takedown but Raga gets double underhooks and turns Pikachu into the cage.
Raga swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pikachu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Raga as he avoids it easily.

Pikachu closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Raga to the mat! Raga manages to get full guard.
Raga can't keep his opponent in guard - Pikachu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Raga is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at JAG Battle Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Pikachu is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Raga sees it coming and defends easily.
Raga is looking for a sweep. Pikachu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Raga wants to control but Pikachu is keeping busy.
Detektyw Pikachu has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pikachu stalling away here and it's allowed Raga to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Pikachu shoots in but Raga avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pikachu is defended easily by Raga.
Raga throws a right hand that Pikachu ducks under and follows up with a left that Pikachu also avoids with ease.
Raga lands a nice leg kick that just misses Pikachu's sensitive parts.

Pikachu misses with a wild body shot.
Raga throws a head kick that misses.
Pikachu takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Pikachu fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Raga, pushing him back against the cage.

Raga manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Raga wants to hit a sweep here but Pikachu passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Raga there!

Pikachu is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Raga to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Raga shrugs it off.

Pikachu is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Raga is surviving well by controlling Pikachu's body position as best he can.

Pikachu seems to be looking for submissions.

Raga has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pikachu is working away from the top position though.
Raga is staying active underneath Pikachu, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bina Raga will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Detektyw Pikachu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pikachu smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Pikachu fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Raga went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Pikachu shoots in but no luck this time.
Bina Raga is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Raga lands with a nice combination. Pikachu backs away looking to recover.

It looks like Detektyw Pikachu has been cut.
Pikachu avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Pikachu is looking to clinch but Raga is avoiding it.
Raga misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pikachu closes this distance looking for a takedown but Raga circles away.
Bina Raga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Detektyw Pikachu.
Raga throws a low kick, looking for Pikachu's leg but Pikachu calmly moves out of range.
Pikachu doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Pikachu darts in looking for a takedown but Raga gets double underhooks and turns Pikachu into the cage.

Pikachu lands a nice looking body shot.
Bina Raga is winning the standup battle so far.
Pikachu throws a series of punches but Raga moves out of range.
Raga lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pikachu backs up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pikachu takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Pikachu doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Raga counters with a stiff right hand.
Raga lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Raga throws a shot to the body.
Bina Raga is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pikachu swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pikachu looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Raga throws a right and a left that Pikachu avoids nicely.
No joy there for Raga, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A countering left hand to the body from Pikachu misses.
Pikachu fails with the takedown
and Raga counters with a nice low kick that buckles Pikachu's knee momentarily.
An inside leg kick from Raga misses.
A nice side step and Pikachu releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Pikachu is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Raga rather than just go for the knockout.
Pikachu dives in and grabs Raga's left leg, looking for a takedown. Raga pushes down on Pikachu's head and hops out.
Raga is looking for a counter combo.
Pikachu has a takedown stuffed.
Raga throws a quick counter kick to the body but Pikachu avoids it.
Pikachu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Raga misses with a series of wild punches.

Pikachu jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Pikachu moves in looking to clinch but Raga pushes him off.
Pikachu shoots in but Raga avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pikachu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pikachu forces Raga back against the cage and clinches.
Pikachu jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Raga walks away with a smile on his face. Pikachu gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Raga takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Pikachu fails with the takedown
and Raga counters with a big head kick but Pikachu shrugs it off.
Pikachu has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Raga.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bina Raga showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Raga has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bina Raga seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
