The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ovchinnikov gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Tatum swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
We've been told by Ovchinnikov's head coaches at St Petersburg MMA Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Tatum throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ovchinnikov comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ovchinnikov throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tatum on the side of the head.

Ovchinnikov throws an overhand right that lands on Tatum's shoulder, as Tatum tries to avoid the shot.
Tatum lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nice defenses there by Tatum.
Tatum tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ovchinnikov defends well and Tatum ends up having to push Ovchinnikov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Tatum was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

and Tatum connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Tatum thuds his right hand into Ovchinnikov's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Tatum throws a front kick aimed at Ovchinnikov's knee but Ovchinnikov avoids it well.

Tatum has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Tatum throws a leg kick but Ovchinnikov moved away.

Tatum closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ovchinnikov's guard.

Ovchinnikov has his feet on Tatum's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
