PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gold T (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iron Mike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Gold T has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gold T!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Iron Mike!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
T keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mike.
Mike looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Mike doesn't manage to clinch there - T circles away.
Mike wants to clinch up but T keeps it at a distance.

T scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
T scoring with strikes to the body and head.
T slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
T seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mike for as long as he can get away with.
Mike is looking for a sweep. T is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
T winds up and cracks Mike with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

T looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mike with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. T lands a nice short elbow.

T drops an elbow to the side of Mike's head.
T looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mike with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
T wants to take a breather but Mike is having none of it.
T is nestled in close to Mike, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Mike has one foot on T's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Mike throws a series of punches but T avoids them all with ease.
Mike misses with an uppercut. T saw that one coming.
T takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Mike stuffs the takedown attempt from T. T gets slowly back to his feet.

T looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
T prevents Mike from standing back up.
T is trying to control the action in half guard but Mike is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
T drops an elbow to the side of Mike's head.
T stops Mike from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



T feints and as Mike raises his hands in defense, T changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mike keeping moving, preventing T from controlling successfully.
T landing some decent shots from guard.
T keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mike's head.
T content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
T tries to free his leg and advance position but Mike is retaining full guard.
Mike will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

T will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mike wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mike is looking to stand up but T isn't so interested in that idea.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mike scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Mike looks to land a combination but T avoids it well.
Iron Mike is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
T ducks under a wild hook from Mike.
Mike dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Mike. No joy for T on that attempt.
T gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Mike lands a lovely overhand right.
A decent looking cross lands there for Mike.
T shoots in but no luck this time.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gold T. That's going to take a lot out of him.
T shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mike as he jumps to the side.
T moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

T changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mike looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mike takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
T lands a decent elbow from side control.
T trying to control the action but Mike is working from the bottom.

Mike is being controlled here.
T connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mike some visible discomfort.
Mike is looking for a sweep.
T working the ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mike lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mike throws a lazy right hand but T sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
T keeps the fight on the outside.

T shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. T showed some decent athleticism there.
T throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

T prevents Mike from standing back up.
T is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mike misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Mike manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Mike throws a shot from downtown. T moves away and avoids it.
The crowd cheers as Mike lands an impressive looking overhand right. T doesn't seem phased though.

T dodges the punch combination from Mike.

T stops Mike from standing up.

T gets to his feet - Mike follows without any prompting.
T ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
T shoots for a takedown but Mike saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
T takes one to the side of the head.
Mike lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
T shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mike as he avoids it easily.

T scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mike is not content to let T control the position.
T has knee on belly and moves into mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gold T dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mike has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Mike gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

T moves forwards but Mike connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Mike scores with the left hand. T knows he should have avoided that one.

T scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Mike manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Mike looks to land a combination but T avoids it well.
Mike's corner calls for a 1-2. Mike obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Mike throws a jab but it's blocked by T.
Mike cracks T with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Iron Mike seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

T tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mike swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gold T. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mike throws a right and a left that both miss.

T shoots in and bounces Mike off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
T is in close to Mike's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Mike keeping moving, preventing T from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mike stalks T and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into T's face. T staggers backwards, shaken.
T shoots in for a double leg but Mike sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mike rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but T moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

T darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
T is trying to control. Mike wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
T seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mike wants to get back to his feet.

Mike makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Mike might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Mike moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

T shoots in for a double leg but Mike sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
T shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Mike throws a hook to the side of T's head but T sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Gold T is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mike throws out a loose jab but T uses good head movement to avoid it.

T wants to control but Mike is keeping him busy.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for T, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
