PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Russ Smith (ranked 1731 p4p, 2510 weight class) and Jon Snitch (ranked 252 p4p, 339 weight class). Snitch has chosen I Wanna Rock as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Russ Smith has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Russ Smith seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Russ Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 28 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Snitch!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith connects with a crisp jab.

Snitch shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Smith gets full guard.
Snitch trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.

Smith has control of Snitch's left arm, preventing Snitch from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Snitch seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Snitch must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Snitch is on top in guard.

Smith has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

It looks like Snitch might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Snitch is stalling here. Smith is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Snitch seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smith has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Snitch defends it well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smith takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Snitch gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Smith counters with a straight right hand.
Snitch misses with a wild combination.

Snitch moves into the clinch successfully.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jon Snitch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith leaves Snitch with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Russ Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Snitch.

and Smith counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Snitch shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smith sprawls well. Smith wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Snitch gets slowly back to his feet.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We've been hearing that Smith has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Snitch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close second round but I would say that Russ Smith will probably get the nod.

Smith throws a big counter combination but Snitch scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Horrible takedown attempt by Snitch or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith, which made it look bad.
Russ Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Snitch.
Snitch fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smith avoids it really well and circles away.
Smith connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

and Smith scores with a counter punch that sends Snitch to the canvas! Smith smells blood - he's punishing Snitch with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Snitch has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Russ Smith!
In defeat, Jon Snitch stepped up to the mic, saying 'This loss will make me better, I will be back.'.
