Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Newton Diaz (ranked 3678 p4p, 7247 weight class) and Saul The Sprawl (ranked 474 p4p, 742 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Newton Diaz has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Newton Diaz seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Saul The Sprawl!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Sprawl misses with a looping left.
Nice straight punches there by Diaz. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Diaz.

The Sprawl is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We've been hearing good reports from Diaz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Diaz has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of The Sprawl's face.
Diaz seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but The Sprawl is holding on tight.
Diaz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Diaz has control of The Sprawl's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and The Sprawl regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The Sprawl's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

The Sprawl felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The Sprawl is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Diaz asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz has an Americana. The Sprawl didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Diaz is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Diaz hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
