PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Sanders (ranked 4346 p4p, 6370 weight class) and Lump Sum (ranked 518 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lump Sum!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanders darts in looking for a takedown but Sum gets double underhooks and turns Sanders into the cage.
Sum wants to counter the offense by Sanders and move into the clinch position.
Sanders is trying to push Sum away but Sum has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Sum tries for a takedown. No joy.
A frustrated look appears on Sum's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Sanders successfully pulls guard.
Sum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sanders is keeping the position for now.
Sum is stalling in the full guard.
Sanders wants to sweep here but Sum controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sum engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanders trying to control the position.
Sanders is really struggling to control Sum but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Sum must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sum trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Sanders looks for a takedown but Sum sprawls well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sanders scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Sum pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sanders tries to counter with a takedown but Sum is quick to defend against it.
Sum on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sanders or perhaps it was just good defense by Sum, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Sanders. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanders scores with a nice head shot.
Sanders avoids the body shot from Sum.

Sum gets a double leg takedown into Sanders's guard.
Sum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanders. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sum sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Sanders isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sum stacks Sanders on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sum!
Sanders wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sanders struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Sum working away.
Sum tries to advance to mount but can't.
Sum controlling the position.
Sanders tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sum wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lump Sum will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sum shoots in and drives through. Sanders sprawls well.
Sanders shoots in but Sum avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sanders changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sum tries to avoid it but Sanders manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sum to the ground. Sum escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sanders tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Sum counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Sum with the ground and pound but Sanders uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Sum is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sum throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sanders works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sanders has his foot on Sum's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sum works his way back into a safe position though.
Sum is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sanders will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sum stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sum closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sanders did well to prevent Sum getting side control.
Sanders is looking to get back to is feet but Sum passes into side control.
The referee asks Sum politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sum prefers to stall for the moment though.
Sanders avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Sum.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sum goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Sanders rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sum's guard! Nice work there by Sanders!
Sum has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Sanders has passed into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sum is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Sanders trying to control the action but Sum is working from the bottom.
Sum tries to buck Sanders off but Sanders is having none of it.
Sum holding on.
Sanders looking to control but instead Sum has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanders stops Sum from getting back to his feet.
Sum tries to roll over but Sanders keeps him under control.
Sum desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Sum is looking to improve his position.
Sanders is looking to take a break and control but Sum is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lump Sum has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sum keeping hold of Sanders's head, controlling as best he can.
Sanders wants to control but Sum is keeping him busy.
Sum is controlling Sanders's trapped leg to prevent Sanders from advancing to side control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sum goes for a double leg but Sanders avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sanders continues to drive forward.
Sanders tries to clinch but Sum is having none of it.

Sum closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sum lands in his opponent's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Lump Sum will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

A head kick from Sanders lands but Sum takes it in his stride.
Nice body punch from Sanders.
A lazy body kick from Sum
and Sanders counters with a left and a right that stings Sum.
Sanders throws a good cross that connects.
Sanders keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sanders gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Sum's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Sum tries to pull guard but Sanders holds him up against the cage and eventually Sum drops back down to his feet.
Sum takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sanders breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sanders digs a good hook to Sum's body.
Sanders fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sum has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sum looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sanders looks to land a combination. Sum sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Sum tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sanders counters with a nice body kick.
James Sanders is winning the standup battle so far.
Sanders works Sum's body with a nice hook.
Sanders cracks Sum with a good jab.
Sum looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Sanders lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Sum at a distance.

Sanders closes the distance and clinches.
Sanders is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sum gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sum is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sanders to keep the fight standing.
James Sanders has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lump Sum.
Sum is trying to pull guard but Sanders turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Sanders throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Sums head.
Come on Sanders - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Sanders tries to stall but Sum uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Sanders tries for a takedown but Sum manages to get underhooks.
Sum tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sanders just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sanders prevents Sum from breaking the clinch.
Sum can't break the clinch.

Sum is pressed up against the cage. Sanders has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sum down to the mat. Sum avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Sanders shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sum as he jumps to the side.
Sum has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sanders.

Sum throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sanders tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sum is in Sanders's guard.

Sanders uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Sanders is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sum can do to turn this around?
Good leg kick by Sanders.
Sanders fails with the takedown.
Sum doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sum fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sanders to the ground. Sum is now in Sanders's guard.

Sanders manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sum fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sanders is looking to clinch but Sum is avoiding it.
Sanders turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Sanders tries to close the distance and clinch but Sum swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sanders closes the distance but Sum moves to the side

and Sum counters with a shoot takedown. Sanders fights it but they end up in guard.

Sanders uses the cage to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Sanders showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sum has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
