Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carl Sagan (ranked 4425 p4p, 24479 weight class) and Robert Trigwell (ranked 478 p4p, 696 weight class). Carl Sagan has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carl Sagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Trigwell!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trigwell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sagan tries to break the clinch but Trigwell is controlling the position.
Trigwell landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Trigwell has Sagan pushed against the cage.
Sagan fails to pull guard.

Sagan pulls Trigwell into guard.
Trigwell slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Trigwell wants to control from the top but Sagan keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sagan is trying to keep Trigwell in close.

Sagan has his foot on Trigwell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Trigwell works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trigwell wants to control from the top but Sagan keeps moving.
Sagan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've been hearing good reports from Sagan's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Trigwell trying to control the position from guard on top but Sagan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sagan is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Sagan wants to sweep but no luck.

Sagan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sagan keeping moving, preventing Trigwell from controlling successfully.

Sagan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Trigwell stacks Sagan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Trigwell!
Sagan is not content to let Trigwell control the position.
Sagan wants to control but Trigwell postures up.

Sagan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The fighters are battling for position here. Sagan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Trigwell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sagan looking for a guillotine here but Trigwell defends easily.
Sagan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Trigwell's guard.

Trigwell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sagan is one step ahead there.
Sagan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trigwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sagan wants to control from the top but Trigwell keeps moving.
Trigwell pulls Sagan in close to his closed guard and prevents Sagan from doing any damage or advancing position.
Trigwell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sagan tries to free his leg and advance position but Trigwell is retaining full guard.

Trigwell might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sagan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Sagan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trigwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Trigwell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sagan stands and throws Trigwell's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Trigwell tries to bench press Sagan off him but Sagan keeps the position.
Trigwell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sagan tries to advance to mount but can't.
Trigwell struggling a bit here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sagan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Sagan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Trigwell throws a body shot but no joy.
Sagan misses with a head kick.

Trigwell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Trigwell scores with a knee to the head.
Sagan is trying to pull guard but Trigwell has him pressed against the cage.
Trigwell unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sagan lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Sagan is looking to break free of the clinch but Trigwell has double underhooks.
Sagan tries to work over Trigwell's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Sagan jumps guard.

Trigwell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Sagan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Trigwell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sagan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Trigwell has managed to get both his arms back between Sagan's legs - danger averted.
Sagan tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Sagan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Trigwell is posturing up here but Sagan has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Trigwell tries to roll out but it's too tight and Trigwell has to tap! Slick submission there by Sagan!
