PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paul Sight (ranked 1146 p4p, 2459 weight class) and Krisko Kurtev (ranked 165 p4p, 334 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Sight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Krisko Kurtev!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sight throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Sight gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kurtev to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sight is looking to stand up but Kurtev isn't so interested in that idea.
Kurtev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sight throws a hook to the side of Kurtev's head but Kurtev sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Kurtev is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sight to keep the fight standing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kurtev keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sight's efforts to push away.
Sight goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Kurtev has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sight clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Sight looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Kurtev wants to clinch up but Sight keeps it at a distance.
Kurtev tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sight paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sight misses with a hook. Kurtev ducked under it nicely.
Paul Sight is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kurtev shoots in for a takedown but Sight shows good takedown defense.
Sight stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Sight connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kurtev momentarily.
Sight turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Kurtev decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Sight manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Kurtev keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sight tries to circle away but Kurtev has him pinned against the cage.
Kurtev is looking to take this one to the mat.
Kurtev tries for a takedown but Sight manages to get underhooks.

Kurtev pulls guard effortlessly.

Kurtev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kurtev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kurtev will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Sight has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kurtev is proving hard to escape from.
Kurtev not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kurtev has his foot on Sight's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sight works his way back into a safe position though.
Kurtev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sight is one step ahead there.
Kurtev thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Kurtev doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Kurtev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sight doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sight manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Sight wanted to stand there but Kurtev had control of the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kurtev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kurtev is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Sight is hurt! He's hurt bad - Kurtev fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Sight from any more punishment! Congratulations to Kurtev! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Krisko Kurtev!
Krisko Kurtev seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
