Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between RAFAEL DIAS (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, RAFAEL DIAS!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Costa!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DIAS scores with a crisp jab that stopped Costa in his tracks.
Costa looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Costa wants to clinch.

DIAS closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Costa to the mat! Costa manages to get full guard.
DIAS could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
DIAS slips nicely into half guard.
DIAS passes to full mount!
DIAS takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

DIAS has hold of Costa's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Costa manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
DIAS tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

DIAS has control of Costa's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Costa regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Costa is bucking up trying to escape but DIAS cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

DIAS fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Costa tries to lock up and control but DIAS gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The referee stands the fighters back up. RAFAEL DIAS just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

DIAS fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Costa sprawls well initially but DIAS persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

DIAS decides to return to a standing position.
DIAS tries to close the distance and clinch up but Costa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Costa closes the distance and clinches up with DIAS, looking for a takedown. Costa pushes DIAS against the cage but DIAS circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

DIAS punishes Costa's body with a nice straight punch.
DIAS shoots for a double leg takedown but Costa sprawls well. He's pushed DIAS's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
DIAS keeps the fight on the outside.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from DIAS. Costa shrugs it off though.
DIAS tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Costa swivels and escapes.

DIAS pushes Costa up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Costa is pressed up against the cage. DIAS has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Costa down to the mat. Costa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
DIAS shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Costa as he jumps to the side.

and DIAS counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Costa's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

RAFAEL DIAS dominated that round.
That's time! DIAS's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


No luck for DIAS with that takedown attempt.
Costa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

DIAS moves into the clinch successfully.

DIAS breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Costa tries to bum rush DIAS with a series of wild strikes but DIAS uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

DIAS decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
DIAS is figuring out what he wants to do next.
DIAS has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
DIAS frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Costa drops back looking for a leg! DIAS is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and DIAS manages to kick Costa off! Costa jumps back into DIAS's guard.

DIAS breaks from Costa's wrist control and lands an elbow.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, DIAS cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Costa tries to hold on but DIAS pushes him away.

DIAS turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Costa tries to keep at a distance but DIAS has taken the fight into the clinch.

DIAS manages to pull guard.
DIAS bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Costa's guard.

DIAS drops back looking for a leg! Costa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Costa manages to kick DIAS off! DIAS jumps back into Costa's guard.
Costa throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
DIAS controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Costa wants to stand up but DIAS is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Costa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Costa.
Costa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Costa is trying to drag DIAS to the mat but DIAS just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
