PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Ericsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Muchacho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Hector Muchacho was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, BJ Ericsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hector Muchacho!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muchacho throws a combination. Ericsson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ericsson.
Muchacho is trying to get back to half guard.
Ericsson trying to control the action but Muchacho is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Muchacho is trying to get back to his feet.
Ericsson in side control, throwing shots but Muchacho defends.

Ericsson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Muchacho has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ericsson wants to control but Muchacho is keeping him busy.
Muchacho can't do much from the bottom here.
Ericsson passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Muchacho!

Muchacho can't escape the position.

Ericsson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Muchacho has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Ericsson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Muchacho keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Ericsson trying to control but Muchacho is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A nice elbow there by Ericsson.
Ericsson tries to control but Muchacho wriggling away.

Ericsson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Muchacho really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Muchacho is bucking up trying to escape but Ericsson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Muchacho defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ericsson.
Muchacho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ericsson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee warns Muchacho that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Muchacho is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Ericsson blocks Muchacho's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Muchacho tries to reverse the position but Ericsson maintains control.
Ericsson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Muchacho wants to control but Ericsson is having none of it.
Muchacho is squirming around, avoiding Ericsson's attempts to control the action.
Ericsson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Ericsson seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Muchacho is holding on tight.

Muchacho really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Muchacho has given up his back. Will we see Ericsson going for some submissions?

Ericsson looking to break Muchacho's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Muchacho remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ericsson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Ericsson is breathing heavily.

Ericsson is looking to control Muchacho but Muchacho is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Ericsson keeps control of the position as Muchacho tries to break free.
Muchacho is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Muchacho tries to escape but Ericsson has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Ericsson. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Ericsson is not going to allow Muchacho to sit and survive in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Ericsson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Muchacho throws a head kick but Ericsson moves out of range.
Hector Muchacho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Muchacho. No joy for Ericsson on that attempt.

and Ericsson counters with a single leg into guard. Muchacho didn't expect that.

Ericsson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ericsson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Muchacho is breathing heavily.

Ericsson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ericsson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Muchacho for as long as he can get away with.
Muchacho won't allow Ericsson to pass to mount.
Muchacho wants to get back to his feet.
Ericsson is trying to control the action in half guard but Muchacho is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ericsson is controlling the pace.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Muchacho can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ericsson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ericsson wants to finish this one by submission but Muchacho is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ericsson.
Muchacho is looking to improve his position but Ericsson isn't that keen on the idea.
Ericsson wants to control the pace but Muchacho is squirming around nicely.
Muchacho tries to reverse the position but Ericsson maintains control.

Ericsson is landing with some decent strikes but Muchacho is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Ericsson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Muchacho looks a forlorn figure.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Muchacho looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Ericsson is looking for a sweep. Muchacho is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ericsson works his way to full guard. Good work.
Muchacho preventing the sweep.
Ericsson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Muchacho's guard.
Ericsson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ericsson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Ericsson dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Muchacho, as that shot connected.
Muchacho ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ericsson moves away.
Muchacho misses with a takedown

and Ericsson moves into the clinch.
Muchacho fails to pull guard.

Ericsson has clasped his hands together around Muchacho's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Muchacho is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ericsson advances to mount.

Ericsson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Ericsson looking to control but Muchacho is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Muchacho is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ericsson has hold of Muchacho's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Muchacho manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Muchacho tries to buck Ericsson off but Ericsson takes his back!

Muchacho defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Ericsson's arms.
Muchacho wants to control his opponent's hands but Ericsson gets his hands free.

Ericsson tries to get the hooks in deep but Muchacho pushed the leg off.
Muchacho has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Ericsson.
Ericsson is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Muchacho. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
I really don't envy Muchacho right now.

What can Muchacho do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Ericsson has got one arm under Muchacho's chin. This could be trouble... Muchacho trying to control the other hand but Ericsson gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Muchacho has tapped out! The fight is over!
