PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kareem Kane (ranked 2816 p4p, 3729 weight class) and Mike Brown (ranked 366 p4p, 465 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Kareem Kane has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Kareem Kane seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kareem Kane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Brown!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown scores with a jab to the jaw.
Brown throws a big shot that misses.

Brown closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kane kicks Brown off and gets back to his feet.
Brown looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Kane moves into the clinch successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kane has picked Brown up - he's going for a ride! Kane dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Brown is looking to improve his position.
Brown manages to get to full guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Brown manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Kane fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Kane is defending well against a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kane lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Brown is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kane with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Brown is looking for a sweep. Kane is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Brown keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Kane is looking to take a break and control but Brown is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Brown moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Brown wants to get back to his feet but Kane is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Brown managing to control the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kane stopping the sweep attempt from Brown.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kane misses with a combination
and Brown counters with a nice body shot.

Kane fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brown to the ground. Kane is now in Brown's guard.
Kane tries to stand but Brown is controlling from the bottom.

Brown's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Brown looking for a sweep. Not yet Brown, not yet.
Kane controls from within his opponent's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Kane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Brown wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mike Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kane scores with a nice right hand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kane enables Brown to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kane manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Brown stays in close to Kane's body and controls the position.
More stalling from Brown.
Brown trying to control but Kane is working from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mike Brown will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kane gets the takedown into side control.
Kane trying to control the position but Brown is working away.
Brown is looking to regain half guard here but Kane keeps moving and retains side control.
Kane wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brown keeps working.
Brown prevents Kane from improving position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown tries to buck Kane off but Kane is having none of it.
Kane tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Brown manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kane's best efforts.

Kane throws a strike but Brown avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Brown can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kane controls the pace.
Brown tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kane wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.
Brown seems keen to control Kane's posture.
Kane wants to pass the guard but Brown is keeping the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Brown pulls Kane in close to his closed guard and prevents Kane from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kane on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Brown lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
We've been told by Kane's head coaches at Battle House MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Kane gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Brown postures up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kane holds on and takes a little breather.
Kareem Kane overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kane can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace.
Brown postures up in Kane's guard and throws a big left but Kane blocks it.
Kane knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brown on the ground.

Brown distracts Kane with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Brown controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Brown trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Brown closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brown lands in his opponent's guard.
Brown lands a couple of elbows.

Brown lands a couple of digs.
Brown is stalling in the full guard.
Brown loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Brown postures up and lands a big shot to Kane's brow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mike Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Kane's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Brown doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kane counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kane darts in trying to clinch
enabling Brown to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like Kareem Kane has been cut.
Brown swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Brown showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kane.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown lands a left and a right that sends Kane crashing to the canvas! Brown dives into mount looking to finish!

Kane is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Brown lands a nice shot to the head.
Oh Kane is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kane takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Brown's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Brown!
A very excited looking Mike Brown made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
