PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Banzai Bunji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hu Hichu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bunji comes to the ring accompanied by One More Time. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Banzai Bunji!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hu Hichu!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hichu shoots in but Bunji avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hichu avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hichu throws a low kick but it's checked well by Bunji.
A big right from Hichu misses.

Bunji drives through with a takedown into guard.

Bunji stands up and waves to Hichu to follow him.
A slow jab from Hichu misses its intended target.
Bunji rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hichu moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Bunji decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hichu is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Bunji stalling.
Bunji lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hichu is looking to improve his position.
Bunji wants to take a breather but Hichu is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Hichu tries to keep at a distance but Bunji has taken the fight into the clinch.
Bunji is working for takedown but Hichu is calmly controlling the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bunji wants to get back to striking at distance but Hichu won't allow it.
Bunji wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hichu tries for a takedown but Bunji manages to get underhooks.
Hichu has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bunji is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Banzai Bunji has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hu Hichu.
Hichu tries to score a body lock takedown but Bunji shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Bunji gets control of Hichu's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bunji will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Bunji is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hichu is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Hichu is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bunji is just riding it out for now. Hichu eventually gives up the hold.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bunji manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hichu is desperately trying to improve his position but Bunji has a good base and remains in mount.
Bunji is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hichu can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hichu tries to reverse the position but Bunji maintains control.

Banzai Bunji dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Bunji moves out of range of the body kick from Hichu.
Hichu jabs Bunji right on the nose. Bunji blinks but takes it well.
Bunji doesn't manage to clinch there - Hichu circles away.
Bunji avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Bunji fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hichu throws a series of punches but Bunji moves out of range.
Hichu fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Bunji on the side of the head.
Hichu clobbers Bunji with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
A jab from Hichu finds it's way through Bunji's defenses.
Banzai Bunji is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hichu is looking to chop away at Bunji's legs.
Bunji tries to clinch but Hichu is having none of it.
Hichu dodges the punch combination from Bunji.
Hichu keeps the fight on the outside.
Bunji fails with an attempt to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hichu connects with a single shot there.

Bunji throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Hichu connects with a looping right hand.
Bunji tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hichu swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hichu fails with the takedown

and Bunji counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Hichu had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bunji is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hichu Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bunji's back instead.

Hichu is looking for the choke from the back position but Bunji is controlling his hands well.

Bunji is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hichu gets his way!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bunji manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Hichu throws out a loose jab but Bunji uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bunji throws a body punch but Hichu moves out of range.

Bunji shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Hichu is looking to improve his position but Bunji isn't that keen on the idea.

Hichu is squirming around, avoiding Bunji's attempts to control the action.
Hichu tries to reverse the position but Bunji maintains control.
Hichu regains half guard.
Hichu wants to get back to full guard.
Hichu gets full guard.

Bunji wants to control from the top but Hichu keeps moving.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hichu is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Banzai Bunji overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hichu wants to sweep but no luck.
Bunji missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hichu manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Bunji is looking to improve his position but Hichu isn't that keen on the idea.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hichu goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Bunji turns into him and now he's in Hichu's guard.

Hu Hichu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hichu has decided that throwing punches whilst being mounted is the best he can manage just now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hichu is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Bunji is defending well though. Hichu let's go of the attempt for now.
Bunji tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Hu Hichu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hichu has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
