PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yadeep Singh (ranked 1707 p4p, 3919 weight class) and Cristian Eriksen (ranked 255 p4p, 543 weight class). Cristian Eriksen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yadeep Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cristian Eriksen!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Singh lands with a nice combination. Eriksen backs away looking to recover.
Singh throws a series of punches but Eriksen moves out of range.
Eriksen appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Singh lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Eriksen circles away quickly and effectively.
Eriksen throws out a counter right but Singh avoids it with no problem.
Singh bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Eriksen's head.
Singh throws a push kick but Eriksen slaps the foot to one side.
Eriksen looks like he wants to counter punch here.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Eriksen has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Eriksen can do anything to dispel that myth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Eriksen pushes Singh away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Singh gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Singh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Eriksen tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Eriksen is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Eriksen manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
