The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shoenfeld avoids the head kick by Kovalenko.
Shoenfeld with the counter takedown but Kovalenko avoids it easily.
Shoenfeld shoots for a takedown but Kovalenko saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Brett Shoenfeld seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kovalenko moves in looking to clinch but Shoenfeld pushes him off.

Kovalenko gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shoenfeld to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kovalenko not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
