PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seamus O Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Reilly is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Donald Where's Your Trousers by The Irish Rovers. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bruce Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Seamus O Reilly!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Reilly throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bruce Cole seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cole tries to close the distance and clinch but O Reilly swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cole lands a head kick!

O Reilly shoots in and bounces Cole off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
O Reilly trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
O Reilly has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cole is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
O Reilly tries to free his leg and advance position but Cole is retaining full guard.
Cole wants to stand up but O Reilly is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cole is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cole blocks a head kick by O Reilly.
Cole doesn't manage to clinch there - O Reilly circles away.
Cole tries to bum rush O Reilly with a series of wild strikes but O Reilly uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cole plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Cole has taken the fight to the clinch.

O Reilly wants the takedown. Cole is fighting it off but O Reilly persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cole's guard against the cage.
Cole preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - O Reilly has eaten all the pies!

O Reilly drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and O Reilly jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cole is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
O Reilly throwing strikes from guard but Cole blocks nicely.
Cole is trying to keep O Reilly in close.
Cole trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

O Reilly has gone for a leg lock! Cole slips out almost immediately though and dives into O Reilly's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

O Reilly escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cole gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cole slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

O Reilly working for a triangle but Cole defends it easily.
Cole connects with a couple of short punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
O Reilly looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cole is one step ahead there.
O Reilly manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Cole is breathing heavily.

O Reilly jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Cole is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Cole and O Reilly has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

O Reilly is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cole is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Seamus O Reilly will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cole shoots in but no luck this time.
O Reilly avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Cole fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cole throws a jab when O Reilly was well out of range.
Cole tries for a takedown but O Reilly sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
O Reilly throws a sloppy head kick

and Cole counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for O Reilly!

That's one minute gone in the round.
O Reilly tries to reverse the position but Cole maintains control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
O Reilly flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Cole can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as O Reilly is looking to escape.
O Reilly regains half guard.
O Reilly missing with punches from the bottom.
O Reilly is looking for a sweep. Cole is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are battling for position here. O Reilly manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now O Reilly is on top in guard.
O Reilly pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cole is keeping the position for now.
O Reilly lands a couple of elbows.
O Reilly forces his way into half guard.
Cole is not content to let O Reilly control the position.
Cole is trying to escape back to his feet but O Reilly uses the scramble to pass into side control.

O Reilly is working to tighten is grip on Cole's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Cole has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but O Reilly is really squeezing tight and eventually Cole passes out! O Reilly breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Seamus O Reilly!
