PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Woods (ranked 1034 p4p, 1514 weight class) and Fionn Cumhaill (ranked 153 p4p, 221 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Cumhaill's choice of entrance music: Dropkick Murphy’s - Johnny, I hardly knew ya. Joey Woods could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Fionn Cumhaill's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joey Woods!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Fionn Cumhaill!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cumhaill swings for the body but Woods moves out of range.

Woods shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cumhaill's guard.
Woods slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Cumhaill keeping full guard, as Woods tries to pass.
Woods is working hard here to advance position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woods wants to control from the top but Cumhaill keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Woods darts in looking for a takedown but Cumhaill gets double underhooks and turns Woods into the cage.
Cumhaill has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Woods avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Woods tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cumhaill smiles and moves away.

Woods feints and as Cumhaill raises his hands in defense, Woods changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cumhaill throws his legs up looking for a submission but Woods uses it to pass to side control.
Woods has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Woods tries to control but Cumhaill wriggling away.
Cumhaill tries to hold on but Woods postures up.
Woods takes Cumhaill's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Cumhaill is in trouble.
Woods just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cumhaill shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Woods is trying to defend but Cumhaill finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cumhaill looking to sit in guard and control but Woods gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Woods seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cumhaill is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Woods's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Woods's back!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cumhaill is trying to stick to Woods's back but Woods is turning into Cumhaill. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cumhaill's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Woods.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joey Woods will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cumhaill is controlling an arm, preventing Woods from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Woods with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Woods, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
