With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Drew Barnes!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hallbjornsson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barnes.
Barnes misses with a right hand
and Hallbjornsson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Hallbjornsson moves out of range as Barnes strikes.
Barnes throws a body punch but Hallbjornsson moves out of range.
Hallbjornsson looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Barnes moves into range and connects with a jab.
Barnes slips a jab from Hallbjornsson.
Barnes throws a poor cross that misses
and Hallbjornsson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Hallbjornsson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Fist of Fury Training Center in the buildup to the fight.
Hallbjornsson swings for the body but Barnes moves out of range.
Hallbjornsson sets himself, and Barnes steps forward looking for the clinch! Hallbjornsson avoids it this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barnes connects with a looping right hand.
Barnes tries to bum rush Hallbjornsson with a series of wild strikes but Hallbjornsson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A little feinted left hand from Hallbjornsson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Barnes pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Hallbjornsson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Barnes throws a hook but Hallbjornsson avoids it easily.
Drew Barnes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hallbjornsson thows a left - swing and a miss!
Hallbjornsson ducks under a wild hook from Barnes.
Hallbjornsson slips under a jab.
Barnes connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Barnes thows a leg kick but Hallbjornsson checks it
and Hallbjornsson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
It looks like Drew Barnes has been cut.
Barnes closes the distance and clinches up with Hallbjornsson, looking for a takedown. Barnes pushes Hallbjornsson against the cage but Hallbjornsson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A telegraphed right hand from Barnes misses the target.
A low kick lands for Hallbjornsson.
A left lands for Barnes.
A looping hook to the body misses from Barnes. Hallbjornsson does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hallbjornsson avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
An attempted straight right counter from Hallbjornsson misses the target.
Hallbjornsson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Barnes takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barnes shoots and misses
and Hallbjornsson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Barnes walks straight into a right hand from Hallbjornsson - that's dropped him! Hallbjornsson jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Barnes from any more punishment! Barnes complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
