Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yoshinobu Tokugawa (ranked 1828 p4p, 371 weight class) and Kai Kona (ranked 234 p4p, 48 weight class). Kona has chosen A Warriors Call as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshinobu Tokugawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kai Kona!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kona throws a solid leg kick but Tokugawa takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kona.
A jab from Kona does it's job there.
Kona misses the jab.
Tokugawa swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Tokugawa fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tokugawa displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kona throws out the jab.
Tokugawa finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Tokugawa changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Tokugawa blocks a jab.
Kona swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tokugawa lands a nice hook to Kona's body. Kona takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Kona tried to score with a low kick but Tokugawa checks it.

Kona has one foot on Tokugawa's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

and Kona takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Tokugawa looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Tokugawa looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Tokugawa's corner calls for a 1-2. Tokugawa obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tokugawa uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kona.
It looked like Tokugawa was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Kona.

Kona throws a jab but it's blocked by Tokugawa.
Tokugawa misses with a two punch combination.
Tokugawa fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Kai Kona is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tokugawa takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Kai Kona seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kona throws a leg kick that is checked
and Tokugawa counters with a thumping low kick.

Kona throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kona is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tokugawa.

Kona has his hands clasped together around Tokugawa's back. He's all about the action.

Kona has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Golden Harvest. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Tokugawa thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That was a close round but I would say that Yoshinobu Tokugawa will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kona throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tokugawa on the side of the head.
Tokugawa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Tokugawa tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kona sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tokugawa somewhat.

and Tokugawa counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Kona is looking to slow Tokugawa down with leg kicks.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kona. Tokugawa does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tokugawa on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

That kick from Kona tenderised Tokugawa's leg. Tokugawa is trying to keep his angry face on.

Tokugawa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tokugawa showed some decent athleticism there.
Kona is staying active underneath Tokugawa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kona avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Tokugawa.
Tokugawa throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Kona to regain full guard.
Tokugawa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Tokugawa stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Kona throws up his legs and catches Tokugawa in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Tokugawa tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Kona! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Kai Kona!
An out of breath and clearly excited Kai Kona thanked Ma Balls Is Hot Clothing for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
