PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mad Down (ranked 3072 p4p, 4874 weight class) and John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mad Down!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Doe!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Down shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Doe's guard.
Doe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Down throws a big elbow that misses.
Down slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Doe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Doe has his foot on Down's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Down works his way back into a safe position though.
Down has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Down postures up.

Down decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Doe, up you get!
Doe wants to clinch.
Down is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Down takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Doe keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Doe steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Down.

Down drives through with a takedown into Doe's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Doe manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Down is looking for a takedown.
Down gets underhooks to prevent Doe's takedown attempt.

Down pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Down scores with a takedown into Doe's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Down is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Doe is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Doe has escaped and now he's on top!

Doe stays in close to Down's body and controls the position.
Down is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Down has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Doe is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Down.
Down is breathing heavily.
Doe working the head with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Doe scores with punches from side control.
Doe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Doe decides to stand back up. Doe steps back and let's Down get back to his feet.
Doe shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Down counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Down.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Doe creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Down breaks from the clinch.
Doe fails with a takedown attempt.
Mad Down has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Doe.

Down gets in close and instigates a clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Doe will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Doe shoots for a takedown but Down saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Down gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Doe throws a head punch that misses.
Doe tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Down smiles and moves away.

Down clinches up with Doe and pushes him back against the cage.

Down gets control of Doe's arms and successfully pulls guard. Down will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Down on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Down tries to get out of the position.

Doe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Down has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Doe has managed to get both his arms back between Down's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Doe is fighting to break Down's control of his arms but Down is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Doe trying to control the position from guard on top but Down is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Down trying to keep a closed guard but Doe is proving a slippery customer.
Doe wants to control from the top but Down keeps moving.

Down throws his legs up looking for a submission but Doe uses it to pass to side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Down tries to improve position but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Doe wants to control but Down is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Down is trying to get back to half guard.
Doe passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Down!
Down is squirming around, avoiding Doe's attempts to control the action.
Down really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
BOOM! Doe connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Down working to try and regain half guard.
Doe looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Down knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Doe on the ground.
Doe manages to capitalize on a mistake by Down to take his back!
Down wants to get back to his feet.
Doe controls the action.
Down looking very determined here, making life difficult for Doe.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doe scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Down trying to control the hands but Doe won't let him.
Down is really stuck here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Doe tries to keep control of the position but Down is staying busy.
Down tries to escape but Doe has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Doe tries to get the hooks in deep but Down pushed the leg off.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Doe tries to clinch up but Down circles away and keeps his distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Down.

Doe wants to control but Down postures up.

Doe is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Down is keen to just control but Doe is a slippery customer.
Doe slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Down wants to control from the top but Doe keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Doe trying to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Doe fails with the takedown.
Down fails to land with a series of punches.

Down scores with a takedown into Doe's guard.

Doe looking for a triangle here. Down is fighting it but it looks tight! Doe pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Down is tapping out - this one is all over!
