PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve McRae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter comes to the cage accompanied by Empire State of Mind. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shawn Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve McRae!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McRae throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carter's waist but Carter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McRae off to one side.
Carter scores with a jab to the jaw.
McRae fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Carter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

McRae shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
McRae looking to control and managing it successfully.

McRae wants to finish this one by submission but Carter is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from McRae.
McRae tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
McRae postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Carter looks a forlorn figure.

Carter is squirming around, avoiding McRae's attempts to control the action.

McRae looking for a guillotine from mount but Carter is having none of it.
Carter's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
BOOM! McRae connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Carter is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

McRae is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carter has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Carter squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
McRae looking to control but Carter is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

McRae decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
McRae seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
McRae wants to pass to mount but Carter is defending the position.

McRae is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carter defends it well.

Carter is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Carter defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from McRae.
McRae really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McRae takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Carter throws an overhand right that lands on McRae's shoulder, as McRae tries to avoid the shot.

McRae feints and as Carter raises his hands in defense, McRae changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Carter is looking to stand up but McRae isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McRae working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Carter's head.
Carter wants to get back to his feet but McRae is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McRae must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Despite being in the dominant position, Steve McRae just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McRae shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McRae showed some decent athleticism there.

McRae circles away from the clinch attempt.
Carter fails to land with a series of punches.

McRae controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Carter wants to stand up but McRae is controlling him.
McRae slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Carter can't keep his opponent in guard - McRae advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Carter tries to kick McRae off but McRae keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McRae is looking to advance position but Carter won't allow it.
Carter looks like he's trying to stand up.
Carter trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
