PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thor Hammer (ranked 358 p4p, 1915 weight class) and Ruben Ruiz Mangas (ranked 60 p4p, 268 weight class). Mangas is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I'm a Soldier. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hammer ducks right into an uppercut from Mangas.
Mangas connects with a leg kick.
No joy there for Hammer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hammer misses with a looping left.
Hammer tries to land a front kick but Mangas steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Hammer rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mangas counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mangas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hammer.
Mangas has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ruben Ruiz Mangas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hammer uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mangas.

and Mangas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Mangas moves into the clinch.

Hammer tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Mangas has a couple of punches blocked by Hammer.
Hammer struggles to land a body shot inside as Mangas controls his hands.

Hammer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hammer slips under a jab from Mangas.
A little feinted left hand from Hammer on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Hammer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mangas was well out of range. Poor timing from Hammer.
A nice side step and Mangas releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
A head kick by Hammer misses
and Mangas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Mangas dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Left hook, right uppercut from Hammer.
Mangas ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mangas with a nice calf kick.
Mangas throws a quick inside leg kick.
Mangas lands a nice looking body shot.
Mangas bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Hammer moves out of range of the body kick from Mangas.

Mangas throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hammer stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mangas lands a leg kick that knocks Hammer off balance momentarily.
Mangas keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Mangas avoids a kick to the body.
Mangas lands with a nice body punch.

Mangas wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mangas throws a looping overhand right but Hammer ducks down to avoid it.

Mangas throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Mangas steps in with a hook that catches Hammer right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Mangas follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Hammer looks absolutely devastated.
