PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Montgomery (ranked 5466 p4p, 5131 weight class) and Tim Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Orlando Montgomery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tim Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Daniel Franklin and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montgomery changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nelson tries to avoid it but Montgomery manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nelson to the ground. Nelson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Montgomery shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nelson sprawls well. Nelson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Montgomery gets slowly back to his feet.
Nelson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Montgomery blocks a low kick nicely.

Montgomery gets caught napping as Nelson dives in and scores a takedown. Montgomery manages to retain guard.
Nelson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Montgomery escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nelson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nelson passes Montgomery's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Nelson trying to mount his opponent but Montgomery defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Montgomery is looking for a sweep. Nelson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nelson moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Montgomery.
Nelson moves into full mount!
Nelson trying to control but Montgomery is having none of it.
Nelson wants to take his opponent's back but Montgomery doesn't allow it.
Nelson tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

Nelson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Montgomery to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Montgomery shrugs it off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nelson wants to control the pace but Montgomery is squirming around nicely.

Montgomery manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Montgomery is looking to control Nelson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Montgomery avoid being mounted?
Nelson is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nelson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nelson wants to control but instead Montgomery manages to regain half guard.
Nelson prevents Montgomery from improving his position.

Nelson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Montgomery doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nelson.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Montgomery is staying active underneath Nelson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Montgomery definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Montgomery wants to get back to full guard.
Nelson content to control rather than advance.
Montgomery trying to control from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nelson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Montgomery tries to hold on but Nelson postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Nelson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Montgomery fails with a takedown attempt.
Nelson swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Montgomery looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nelson tries a low kick but Montgomery avoids it.
Nelson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tim Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Montgomery or perhaps it was just good defense by Nelson, which made it look bad.
Nelson wants to counter with a clinch but Montgomery pushes him away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Orlando Montgomery. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nelson looks to score with a jab to the body but Montgomery is just out of range.

Montgomery feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Nelson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Montgomery should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Nelson has tightened it up now! Montgomery should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
