PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Leal (ranked 1780 p4p, 3631 weight class) and Sammy King (ranked 77 p4p, 76 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sammy King was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nathan Leal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Sammy King!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King tries to clinch but Leal is having none of it.
Leal swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
King tries to clinch but Leal moves out of range.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Leal avoids it really well and circles away.
King just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromLeal.
King tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've been told by Leal's head coaches at Kalashnikov ELITE MMA Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Leal swats away the attempt to clinch by King.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leal walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

King shoots in and gets a takedown into Leal's guard.

Leal pushes King off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Leal tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Leal to the ground. Leal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sammy King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King looks to land a body kick but Leal moved away.

King clinches with his opponent.
King has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

King manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Leal stands up from guard. Let's bang!
King has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
King thuds his right hand into Leal's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
King shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and King takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

It looks like Sammy King has been cut.
Nathan Leal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sammy King.
King tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Leal defends well and King ends up having to push Leal into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Leal throwing a counter right hand but King manages to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Leal counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for King to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Leal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:07 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Nathan Leal!
During a confident post fight interview, Nathan Leal thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
