PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sunshine Okafor (ranked 1782 p4p, 1858 weight class) and Adam Barnes (ranked 222 p4p, 232 weight class). Okafor comes into the arena with Bliss blaring out of the sound system. Adam Barnes is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sunshine Okafor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Adam Barnes!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okafor tries a head kick but it misses.
Okafor throws a lazy right hand but Barnes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Barnes misses with a few strikes there.
Barnes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
The fighters circle momentarily. Okafor darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Okafor closes the distance and clinches.
Okafor avoiding damage as Barnes throws knees to the body.
A nice right hand lands inside from Barnes.

Barnes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A swing and a miss from Barnes.
Barnes throws a one two combo.
Okafor misses with a straight left.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barnes takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Okafor swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Barnes takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Barnes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Barnes throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Okafor stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barnes throws an ugly left hook that misses

so Okafor counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barnes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Okafor's guard.

Barnes sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Barnes trying to control but Okafor is working from the bottom.
Okafor lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Okafor passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Barnes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Okafor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Okafor staying calm.
Okafor definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Barnes is looking for a sweep.

Okafor thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Barnes is looking to reverse the position.
Barnes sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Okafor is looking for a kimura but Barnes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Okafor to get the leverage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barnes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Okafor trying to pass the guard but Barnes defending well.

Okafor trying to control the action but Barnes is working from the bottom.

Okafor is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Okafor is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Okafor is pressing down on Barnes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Barnes is holding on for now.
Barnes wants to get back to full guard.
Barnes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Okafor is trying to work for a kimura but Barnes is defending well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barnes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Okafor trying to control the action but Barnes is working from the bottom.

Okafor is working for a kimura but Barnes is defending it quite comfortably.

Okafor is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Okafor wants to work for an arm triangle but Barnes is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Okafor prevents Barnes from standing back up.
Barnes won't allow Okafor to pass to mount.

Okafor maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Barnes could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Okafor has cracked it and Barnes is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Okafor!
