Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Maddison (ranked 2293 p4p, 4546 weight class) and Johnny Atkins (ranked 277 p4p, 500 weight class). Atkins is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Zoo. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matthew Maddison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Atkins !
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Atkins fails to land the takedown.
Atkins looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Atkins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Maddison pinned against the cage. Maddison gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Atkins closes this distance looking for a takedown but Maddison circles away.
Matthew Maddison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Atkins .

Atkins tries to keep at a distance but Maddison has taken the fight into the clinch.
Maddison using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Atkins has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Maddison has clasped his hands together around Atkins 's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maddison creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Maddison wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Atkins , who protects the arm well.

Maddison wants to stand but Atkins has his arm trapped.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maddison throws an elbow that misses. Atkins uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Maddison's guard. Nice move by Atkins !

Maddison wants to sweep but no luck.
Atkins 's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Maddison keeping moving, preventing Atkins from controlling successfully.
Atkins stays in close to Maddison's body and controls the position.

Atkins drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maddison looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maddison looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maddison!

You can see the frustration on Atkins 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Maddison misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Maddison goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Atkins rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Maddison's guard! Nice work there by Atkins !

Atkins postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Maddison is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Atkins , into his guard.

Maddison really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Maddison keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Atkins 's head.
Maddison wants to control from the top but Atkins keeps moving.
Maddison trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Atkins wants to sweep but no luck.

Atkins pulls Maddison in to control the position.
Atkins looking to control.
Maddison lands a couple of digs.
Maddison controlling from the top position.
Atkins wants to sweep but no luck.
Maddison working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Atkins 's head.
Atkins utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Maddison has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Atkins looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maddison is one step ahead there.

Maddison got a little sloppy there for a moment and Atkins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maddison has managed to get both his arms back between Atkins 's legs - danger averted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Atkins looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maddison is fending him off so far but Atkins persists. Nope, Maddison circles away and we're back to standing.
Atkins shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maddison but Maddison pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Atkins dives in and grabs Maddison's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maddison pushes down on Atkins 's head and hops out.
Maddison wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Atkins is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Atkins is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Maddison wants to take a breather but Atkins manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Maddison.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maddison accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Atkins has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Maddison doesn't defend quickly enough and Atkins has managed to lock this one up! Can Maddison escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Atkins on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Johnny Atkins !
