PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Kong (ranked 2666 p4p, 5029 weight class) and James Fury (ranked 309 p4p, 532 weight class). Kong kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is X Gonna Give it To ya. The crowd seem to be enjoying Fury's choice of entrance music: Astronaut in the ocean. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Fury!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fury misses with a few strikes there.
Fury cracks Kong with an open hand slap.
Fury tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kong defends well and Fury ends up having to push Kong into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Fury lands a right hook to the body.
Fury avoids the body shot from Kong.
Kong shoots in and drives through. Fury sprawls well.
Fury ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kong moves away.

Fury has closed the distance and engaged Kong in a clinch.
Kong has Fury pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fury manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kong breaks from the clinch.
Fury tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kong paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kong lands a high kick!
Kong throws a one two combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kong is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Fury.

It looks like David Kong has been cut.
Fury shoots in for a takedown but Kong shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Fury closes the distance and pushes Kong back into the cage.
Fury drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
David Kong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Fury.

Kong drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Fury gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Fury blocks an uppercut.

Kong manages to break the clinch.
Fury misses with a looping right.
Kong throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kong tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fury manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Kong avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kong will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fury keeping moving, preventing Kong from controlling successfully.

Kong gets to his feet - Fury follows without any prompting.

Fury wants to take the fight to the mat but Kong manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Kong is working for takedown but Fury is calmly controlling the position for now.
Fury has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Kong seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Fury can turn it around.

Fury has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Kong is trying to keep an underhook but Fury manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Fury is looking for a kimura but Kong is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fury to get the leverage.
Fury wants to pass the guard but Kong is defending well.

Fury is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kong has managed to free his arm - good work.

Fury is working for a submission of some sort.
Kong has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fury is working away from the top position though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but James Fury will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on David Kong's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Fury has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Kong is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kong breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fury is breathing heavily.

Fury tries to clinch but Kong is having none of it.
We've been told by Kong's head coaches at Hotrod Express MMA Training that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Fury stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kong.
Fury takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kong shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Fury eats them both and turns towards Kong to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Sloppy strikes from Kong. Those never looked like landing.

Kong shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kong showed some decent athleticism there.
Kong is stalling here. Fury is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kong seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Fury has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Fury is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Kong looks calm but he's in trouble here. Fury gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Kong is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Fury lets go of the hold and Kong can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). James Fury!
