Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rene Lafayette (ranked 539 p4p, 778 weight class) and Nick Barkley (ranked 84 p4p, 132 weight class). Lafayette comes to the cage accompanied by Erasure - Always. Nick Barkley has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Rene Lafayette's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rene Lafayette!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Barkley!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lafayette comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
A solid leg kick lands there for Barkley.

Lafayette dives in and scores a takedown into Barkley's guard.
Barkley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lafayette is controlling him.
Lafayette's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Lafayette prevents Barkley from getting back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barkley can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barkley is wriggling around but Lafayette manages to pass to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barkley is looking to control Lafayette's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Barkley avoid being mounted?

Lafayette attempts a counter takedown but Barkley avoids it well and moves away.
Lafayette scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

and Lafayette connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Barkley throws a nice outside leg kick.
Lafayette tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barkley swivels and escapes.
Lafayette takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

A nice leg kick lands there from Barkley.
Barkley fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Lafayette on the side of the head.
Lafayette swats away the attempt to clinch by Barkley.

Lafayette fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Barkley looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Lafayette lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Lafayette throws a lazy right hand but Barkley sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lafayette looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Barkley lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Lafayette backs up against the cage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lafayette stalks Barkley and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Barkley's face. Barkley staggers backwards, shaken.
Barkley stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Barkley enables Lafayette to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Barkley manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lafayette is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Barkley wants to stand and escape but Lafayette is having none of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rene Lafayette will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Lafayette throws the left hand but Barkley avoids the punch easily.

Barkley's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Lafayette connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Barkley scrambles back to his feet.

Barkley throws a push kick but Lafayette slaps the foot to one side.
Lafayette dives in and grabs Barkley's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barkley pushes down on Lafayette's head and hops out.

Lafayette bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Lafayette changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barkley tries to avoid it but Lafayette manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barkley to the ground. Barkley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Barkley throws a hook but Lafayette blocks it.
Barkley ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Lafayette takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Barkley dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Lafayette. That did some damage!

Barkley looks to move to half guard but instead Lafayette has passed into mount! Damn!
Barkley bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Rene Lafayette overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barkley wanted to stand there but Lafayette had control of the position.

Rene Lafayette decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
