PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lil Spain (ranked 6883 p4p, 4989 weight class) and Ron Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Lil Spain has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lil Spain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ron Austin!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Austin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Spain!
Spain tries to improve position but can't.
Spain prevents Austin from moving into mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Austin keeps trying to improve his position.
Austin has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Spain!

Austin is standing up, even though he is in mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spain shoots for a double leg takedown but Austin sprawls well. He's pushed Spain's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Spain wants to clinch up but Austin keeps it at a distance.
Austin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Spain.
Spain tries to score a power double leg takedown but Austin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Spain somewhat.

Spain has a closed guard, preventing Austin from standing up.

Austin stands up and waves to Spain to follow him.
Spain shoots in for a takedown but Austin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Austin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Austin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Spain stops Austin from passing to mount.

Austin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Spain knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Austin tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Spain is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Austin tries to advance to mount but can't.

Austin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Spain to his feet.

Spain shoots in for a takedown but Austin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Spain fails in his attempt to clinch.
Austin now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Austin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Spain to the ground. Austin is now in Spain's guard.

Austin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Austin has managed to get both his arms back between Spain's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Austin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Austin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Austin gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Austin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Spain is looking for a sweep.

Austin decides to stand back up. Austin steps back and let's Spain get back to his feet.
Spain looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Austin is fending him off so far but Spain persists. Nope, Austin circles away and we're back to standing.
Austin is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Spain with a body shot.

Austin gets the takedown into side control.
Spain tries to buck Austin off but Austin is having none of it.
Austin tries to move to mount but Spain blocks the move with his legs.

Austin swings around for an armbar but Spain sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Austin's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Spain working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Austin is looking for a triangle but Spain pushes his legs off easily.

Spain stands and steps away. Austin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Spain shoots in looking for a takedown but Austin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Spain's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Austin has gone for a leg lock! Spain slips out almost immediately though and dives into Austin's guard.

Spain throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spain trying to control but Austin is working from the bottom.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spain accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ron Austin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Spain trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Spain is in close to Austin's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Spain postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Austin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Spain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Austin working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spain.
Spain trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Spain with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Austin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Spain passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Spain scoring with punches from side control.
Spain cracks Austin with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Spain connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Austin some visible discomfort.

Spain working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Austin is not content to let Spain control the position.

Spain is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Austin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Spain lands a few punches from side control.
Spain tries to move into full mount but can't pass Austin's legs.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Spain creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Austin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Spain cracks Austin with a big right hand but Austin just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Austin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Austin is looking for a sweep.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Austin throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Spain tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Austin is in Spain's guard.
Austin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Austin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Austin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Spain to the mat! Spain manages to get full guard.

Austin stands and steps away. Spain gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Austin feints and as Spain raises his hands in defense, Austin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Austin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Spain is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Austin, into his guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Spain throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Austin can't keep his opponent in guard - Spain advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Spain seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Austin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Spain is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Austin!
Austin tries to lock up and control but Spain gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Spain is stalling here but it's allowed Austin to get half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Spain is trying to control. Austin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Spain wants to stand up but Austin is controlling the position.
Spain is just content to waste time from the top position. Austin takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Spain keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Austin's head.
Spain lands a couple of digs.
Spain wants to control from the top but Austin keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Spain with a nice head shot there.
Spain looking to sit in guard and control but Austin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Spain seems keen to control Austin's posture.

Austin stands up from Spain's guard - Austin perhaps looking for a knockout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Austin.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Austin works to advance to full mount. Spain defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Ron Austin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Austin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
