PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Silva (ranked 1949 p4p, 3017 weight class) and Roger David (ranked 306 p4p, 454 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roger David!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David fails with the takedown

and Silva counters with a takedown into side control.
Silva sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but David is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
David is not content to let Silva control the position.
David can't do much from the bottom here.
David tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Silva presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
We've been hearing good reports from Silva's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
David is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Silva avoids the attempt from David to control.

Silva wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
David stays in close to Silva's body and controls the position.
Silva seems keen to control David's posture.
My spies in GinĂ¡sio Guerreiro inform me that David has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
David with a flurry of punches that miss.

David wants the takedown. Silva is fighting it off but David persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Silva's guard against the cage.

Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Silva takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Silva moves in looking to clinch but David pushes him off.

Silva clinches up with David and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva wants to take the fight to the mat but David manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

David escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Silva avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
David tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

David darts in and clinches Silva up against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

David breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Silva shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
David wants to control the action here but instead Silva manages to pass to full mount!
David is looking to improve his position but Silva isn't that keen on the idea.
Silva looking to control but David is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
David is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.

Silva looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

David is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
David is wriggling around trying to escape.
David tries to hold on but Silva pushes him away.

Silva lands a big shot there that rocks David but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Silva wants to control the pace but David is squirming around nicely.
David throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
David sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
David wants to get back to full guard.

David desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Silva content to control rather than advance.
Silva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
David is looking to get to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

David tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Silva is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. David can't fight it off and eventually Silva manages to take the fight to the floor. David looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
