The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McQuade pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rivera closes the distance and clinches up with McQuade, looking for a takedown. Rivera pushes McQuade against the ropes but McQuade circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
McQuade shoots in and drives through. Rivera sprawls well.
McQuade goes for a double leg but Rivera avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Rivera continues to drive forward.
Rivera drops down looking for a counter takedown but McQuade sprawls and moves away.
McQuade shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rivera changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Julian Rivera has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake McQuade.

McQuade instigates a clinch.
McQuade tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rivera just stands there and leans against the ropes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rivera thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Rivera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rivera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rivera drops back looking for a leg! McQuade is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McQuade manages to kick Rivera off! Rivera jumps back into McQuade's guard.

Rivera slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Rivera has worked his way into a potential kimura here. McQuade is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rivera yanks on the arm and McQuade is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rivera.
