The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Madden rushes Knox and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Madden creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Knox's defenses.
Knox misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Madden.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Madden throws a head kick that misses.
Knox thuds his right hand into Madden's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Knox misses with a low kick as Madden jumps back.
Madden tries to bum rush Knox with a series of wild strikes but Knox uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Madden pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Knox counters with a low kick, right behind Madden 's knee.

Madden takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Knox moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Knox scores with a sloppy right hand. Madden should have avoided that one.
Bill Madden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Knox, right into the meat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Knox.
Madden gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

It looks like Bill Madden has been cut.
Knox wants to control the pace but Madden is squirming around nicely.
The referee warns Madden that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Madden can do anything to dispel that myth.

Knox lands a big shot there that rocks Madden but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Knox lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That has opened up Bill Madden's cut even more.
Knox pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The cut above Bill Madden's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Knox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knox cracks Madden with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Bill Madden's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Bill Madden's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
