PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pete Jones (ranked 4677 p4p, 4921 weight class) and Soldado Cabo (ranked 0 p4p, 414 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pete Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Soldado Cabo!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cabo dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Cabo's head and hops out.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cabo circles away.
Jones sets himself, and Cabo steps forward looking for the clinch! Jones avoids it this time.

Cabo moves into the clinch.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Cabo gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jones is pressed up against the cage. Cabo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jones down to the mat. Jones avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Cabo is trying to pull guard but Jones has him pressed against the cage.
Pete Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Soldado Cabo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cabo jumps into guard, dragging Jones to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cabo has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Jones has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Jones jumps guard but Cabo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Cabo effectively controlling the action here.
Cabo's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Cabo continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

Jones pulls guard successfully.

Jones is working an open guard so Cabo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cabo but Cabo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cabo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cabo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cabo wants it to stay on the feet.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cabo is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Cabo circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cabo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones is looking to clinch but Cabo is avoiding it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cabo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cabo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cabo tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Cabo, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Cabo against the cage but Cabo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cabo but Cabo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones is not content to let Cabo control the position.
Jones is holding on to half guard well.
The fighters are battling for position here. Jones manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Cabo postures up.
Cabo won't allow Jones to sweep him here.

The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but Cabo pushes him off.
Cabo closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Cabo pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Cabo circles away.
Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Cabo sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cabo scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Jones tries to clinch but Cabo moves out of range.
Cabo stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

Cabo throws a front kick aimed at Jones's knee but Jones avoids it well.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Cabo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cabo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cabo's waist but Cabo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Cabo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cabo as he avoids it easily.
Cabo darts in looking for a takedown but Jones gets double underhooks and turns Cabo into the cage.

Soldado Cabo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Cabo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
