PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Stajin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eric Stajin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Sawyer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Stajin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Stajin misses with a punch to the body.
Sawyer wants to break the clinch but can't.

Stajin pulls Sawyer into guard.
Sawyer stopping the sweep attempt from Stajin.
Stajin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Stajin has a closed guard, preventing Sawyer from standing up.
Stajin is pulling down on Sawyer's head. It's preventing any offense from Sawyer, at least for the moment.

Sawyer wanted to stand there but Stajin had control of the position.
Sawyer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Stajin pulls Sawyer in close to prevent any damage.
Stajin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stajin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sawyer is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stajin wants to pass the guard but Sawyer is defending well.
Sawyer is trying to stand up here but Stajin is controlling him well.
Stajin slips a nice elbow through Sawyer's hands, connecting with Sawyer's forehead.

Stajin drops an elbow to the side of Sawyer's head.
Sawyer is staying active underneath Stajin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Stajin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stajin lands a nice short elbow.
Stajin prevents Sawyer from standing back up.

Sawyer manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Eric Stajin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sawyer is breathing heavily.
Sawyer misses with a double jab.
Stajin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sawyer but Sawyer pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stajin shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Stajin drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stajin passes into half guard.
Sawyer wants to get back to his feet.
Stajin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stajin not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sawyer has hold of Stajin's hands but Stajin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Stajin scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stajin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sawyer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Stajin working over Sawyer with some ground and pound. Sawyer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Stajin moves nicely into side control.
Check out the look on Stajin's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Sawyer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sawyer tries to get out of the position.

Sawyer tries to escape but Stajin is in control.
Stajin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sawyer down.
Sawyer wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Sawyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stajin on the ground.
Stajin misses with the ground and pound.
Sawyer is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Stajin is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sawyer throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Stajin.
Sawyer throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Stajin dominated that round.
That's time! Sawyer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sawyer lands a hook that stumbles Stajin back into the cage. Sawyer follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Stajin to the canvas! Sawyer pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Stajin has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). James Sawyer!
