PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Henricks (ranked 4663 p4p, 4759 weight class) and Shingo Takayama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Henricks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shingo Takayama!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takayama paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Henricks throws a predictable looking body shot
enabling Takayama to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like John Henricks has been cut.

Henricks decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Takayama tries to kick Henricks off in order to stand up. Henricks Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Henricks creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Takayama sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on Takayama's face as Henricks controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Henricks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Takayama's guard.

Henricks is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Henricks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Henricks's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Takayama is pressed up against the cage. Henricks has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Takayama down to the mat. Takayama avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Henricks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Takayama avoids it really well and circles away.

Henricks moves into the clinch successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Henricks tries to pull guard but Takayama forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Takayama looking to stall.
Henricks blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

A close round but Shingo Takayama will probably get the nod.

Takayama pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Henricks back to the cage. Takayama follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Takayama uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Henricks has time to react.

Henricks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Takayama smiles and moves away.
Henricks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Takayama's waist but Takayama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henricks off to one side.
Takayama throws out a counter right but Henricks avoids it with no problem.

Henricks has managed to clinch.
Henricks is trying to pull guard but Takayama has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Henricks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Henricks wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Henricks is trying to push Takayama away but Takayama has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Henricks has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Henricks is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Takayama lunges at Henricks with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Henricks's hand.

Henricks misses with a hook. Takayama ducked under it nicely.
Henricks tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Takayama swivels and escapes.

Henricks shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Takayama napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Henricks works to advance to full mount. Takayama defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Henricks will probably get the nod.

Takayama gets caught flat footed, as Henricks shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Henricks decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Takayama misses with a jab to the body
and Henricks counters with a series of strikes. Takayama will be more careful next time no doubt.

Takayama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Takayama! But no joy.

Henricks is trying to force a seperation but Takayama has the dominant position.

Takayama blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Takayama.
Takayama tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Henricks's elbow.
Henricks tries to break free but Takayama pushes him back against the cage.
Takayama prevents the takedown attempt.

Henricks wants the takedown. Takayama is fighting it off but Henricks persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Takayama's guard against the cage.

Takayama can't keep his opponent in guard - Henricks advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Henricks is looking for a kimura but Takayama is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Henricks to get the leverage.

Takayama lands with a hook. Henricks tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Henricks on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Shingo Takayama seems to be getting the better of the standup.
