PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evan MacMillan (ranked 2876 p4p, 3749 weight class) and Jonas Carvalho (ranked 343 p4p, 424 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Evan MacMillan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jonas Carvalho!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from MacMillan.
Carvalho lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

It looks like Evan MacMillan has been cut.

MacMillan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Evan MacMillan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
MacMillan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Carvalho counters with a straight right hand.

MacMillan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

MacMillan is trying to get an arm triangle but Carvalho is defending well.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

MacMillan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no MacMillan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Carvalho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with MacMillan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

MacMillan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Carvalho is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MacMillan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carvalho knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
MacMillan works to advance to full mount. Carvalho defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
MacMillan wants to control the pace but Carvalho is squirming around nicely.
MacMillan unloads with some shots from mount but Carvalho bucks and avoids them well.

MacMillan is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Carvalho is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Evan MacMillan!
