PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Alexander (ranked 4789 p4p, 4804 weight class) and Chris Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Eric Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Williams!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Alexander.
Alexander misses with a few strikes there.
No luck for Alexander with that takedown attempt.

Williams clinches with his opponent.

Williams gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Williams trying to control from Alexander's half guard. Alexander has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Alexander decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Williams throws a sloppy head kick and Alexander moves out of range easily.

Williams drives through with a takedown into Alexander's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Williams wanted to stand there but Alexander had control of the position.

Alexander is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Williams is aware though and is defending well.
Alexander can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Williams controls the pace.

Williams stands up over Alexander, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Williams is looking to stand up but Alexander won't let him.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Alexander looking to hit a scissor sweep but Williams is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alexander looks to score with a jab to the body but Williams is just out of range.

Williams shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Alexander napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Alexander drops down looking for an ankle pick but Williams pulls his leg out and moves away.

Williams dodges the punch combination from Alexander.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Eric Alexander will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Williams throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch but Williams swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Alexander gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Williams to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Alexander scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Williams stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Williams wants it to stay on the feet.
Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch up but Williams swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Alexander throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Williams blocks it with crossed arms.
Alexander wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Williams is trying to pull guard but Alexander has him pressed against the cage.
Williams tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Alexander smiles and moves away.

Williams manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alexander on his heels. He'll look to pass Alexander's guard now, I'm sure.
Williams must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Williams slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Alexander not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chris Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Williams stuffs the takedown.
Williams keeps the fight on the outside.
Williams bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Alexander darts in looking for a takedown but Williams gets double underhooks and turns Alexander into the cage.

Williams turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Alexander bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Alexander throws a chopping leg kick but Williams manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Williams shapes to counter with a head kick.
Alexander throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Williams dives in and scores a takedown into Alexander's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Williams avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Williams looking to pass the guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Williams won't allow Alexander to sweep him here.

Williams drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Alexander dives on top into guard.

Williams seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Alexander wants to stand and escape but instead Williams has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Alexander wants to sweep but no luck.
Alexander throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alexander swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Williams won't allow Alexander to get back to his feet.
Alexander controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.
Williams slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Alexander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alexander gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Williams counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Alexander. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A bit of stalling here from Williams.

Alexander pulls guard successfully.
Williams passes Alexander's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Williams lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Williams seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alexander does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Williams winds up and cracks Alexander with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

I would just about give that final round to Chris Williams.
I think Williams has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
