PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Melting Stamp (ranked 5580 p4p, 6070 weight class) and Thorn Pierce (ranked 182 p4p, 192 weight class). Pierce has chosen Genesis as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melting Stamp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thorn Pierce!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stamp has managed to clinch.

Stamp manages to pull guard.
Stamp wants to sweep but no luck.
Stamp trying to control the position here.
Stamp controls Pierce momentarily but Pierce frees himself.
Stamp looking for a sweep. Not yet Stamp, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stamp throws a nice elbow from the bottom.

Stamp working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pierce doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pierce manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pierce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Stamp looking for a sweep. Not yet Stamp, not yet.

Stamp escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pierce gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pierce is looking to work some ground and pound but Stamp has wrist control.
Pierce tries to free his leg and advance position but Stamp is retaining full guard.
Stamp wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stamp throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pierce misses with a double jab
and Stamp counters with a two punch combo.
Pierce is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Stamp is looking for a counter combo.
A combination from Stamp does no damage.
Pierce tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Sloppy strikes from Stamp. Those never looked like landing.
Stamp fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pierce throws a series of punches but Stamp moves out of range.
Stamp shoots in but no luck this time.
Pierce fails with a takedown attempt.
Pierce looks winded!
Pierce keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Melting Stamp. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stamp fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pierce, pushing him back against the cage.
Stamp fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Come on Pierce - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Stamp jumps guard.
Stamp wants to sweep here but Pierce controlling him for the moment.
Pierce slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Stamp is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Pierce presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
We've been informed that Pierce has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Pierce fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stamp pressing his opponent against the cage.
Pierce stalling in the clinch but Stamp improves position.
The referee is keeping an eye on Stamp - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Pierce drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Stamp jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pierce walks away with a smile on his face. Stamp gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stamp misses with a takedown attempt - Pierce sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Melting Stamp dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Stamp with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Pierce shoots in for a takedown but Stamp shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Melting Stamp is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stamp throws a head kick that misses.
Stamp connects with a leg kick.

Stamp has taken the fight to the clinch.
Pierce is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Stamp pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Pierce wants to break free but Stamp has control.

Stamp breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pierce doesn't manage to clinch there - Stamp circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pierce looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Stamp takes the fight into the clinch.
Stamp looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Pierce is breathing heavily.

Stamp drags the fight down to the ground.
Stamp trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Pierce stopping the sweep attempt from Stamp.
Pierce passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Pierce trying to control from half guard but Stamp is working away.
Stamp is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pierce's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pierce's back!
Stamp tries to get the hooks in deep but Pierce pushed the leg off.

Pierce tries to escape but Stamp has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Stamp scores with punches from the back.
What can Pierce do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Stamp wants to control but Pierce is keeping busy.

Stamp punches Pierce on the ear.

Stamp is persistently looking for the submission but Pierce is defending it well.

Stamp is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Pierce has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
A lull in the action here.
Stamp biding his time, controlling Pierce.

Stamp is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pierce defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Stamp working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Stamp lands a shot to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Pierce defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Stamp.
Stamp tries for a takedown but Pierce sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pierce tries to clinch up but Stamp circles away and keeps his distance.
Stamp blocks a head kick by Pierce.
Stamp shoots and misses
and Pierce counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Melting Stamp. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pierce stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pierce wants it to stay on the feet.
Pierce misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pierce is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Stamp tries to clinch there but Pierce circles away.

Stamp has taken the fight to the clinch.
Stamp stops a takedown attempt from Pierce.
Pierce letting Stamp take a breather here.
Stamp jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pierce walks away with a smile on his face. Stamp gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pierce tries a head kick but it misses.

Stamp avoids a kick to the body.
Stamp shoots in but Pierce avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Pierce forces Stamp back against the cage and clinches.

Stamp gets control of Pierce's arms and successfully pulls guard. Stamp will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Pierce trying to control but Stamp is working from the bottom.
Stamp lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Stamp looking to pass the guard.

Stamp is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Stamp trying to control the position from guard on top but Pierce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stamp postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Stamp landing some decent shots from guard.
Pierce keeping moving, preventing Stamp from controlling successfully.
Stamp is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Pierce is trying to keep Stamp in close.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pierce being controlled here, momentarily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

And that's the end of the fight!
Melting Stamp showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Stamp has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
