PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Yuki Ishikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralapeno Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yuki Ishikawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ralapeno Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ishikawa wants to clinch.
Ishikawa stuffs the takedown attempt from Gracie. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Ishikawa sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ishikawa moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ishikawa is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Ishikawa circles away and we're back to standing.
Yuki Ishikawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ralapeno Gracie.
Ishikawa throws a head kick that misses.
Ishikawa is looking to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ishikawa keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Ishikawa looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gracie!
Ishikawa looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Ishikawa trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ishikawa misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Gracie is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ishikawa thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Gracie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ishikawa is working away from the top position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ishikawa is working for a kimura but Gracie is defending it quite comfortably.
Ishikawa tries to pass to full mount but Gracie defends it.
Gracie wants to control but Ishikawa is keeping busy.

Ishikawa is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gracie pulls Ishikawa in to control the position.
Ishikawa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ishikawa gets a takedown into half guard.

Ishikawa sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gracie defending well though.
Ishikawa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gracie is not content to let Ishikawa control the position.
Gracie is trying to control but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gracie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Ishikawa content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ishikawa tries to clinch up.
Ishikawa defending well as Gracie loads up on a big left hand.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gracie is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ishikawa is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gracie to the mat. Gracie regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Gracie is looking for a triangle but Ishikawa pushes his legs off easily.
Gracie can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ishikawa controls the pace.
Ishikawa trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gracie's guard.
Ishikawa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

Ishikawa tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
Ishikawa trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Ishikawa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ishikawa trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gracie's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ishikawa trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ishikawa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gracie's guard.
Ishikawa won't allow Gracie to sweep him here.

Gracie throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Ishikawa looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Ishikawa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ishikawa manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Ishikawa's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gracie controlling from the top position.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ishikawa is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ishikawa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Ishikawa in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuki Ishikawa dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Ishikawa looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gracie passes into side control.
Yuki Ishikawa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ishikawa is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gracie's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Ishikawa works his way to full guard. Good work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ishikawa has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gracie is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ishikawa.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ralapeno Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gracie just content to control the position.
Ishikawa is looking to regain half guard here but Gracie keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ishikawa manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Ishikawa is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Gracie reverses the position - he's now on top in Ishikawa's guard.
Ishikawa trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie advances to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Gracie slows the pace down in half guard.
Ishikawa tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ralapeno Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ishikawa has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
