The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Torres closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pelican moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Torres drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Torres jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Pelican isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Torres stacks Pelican on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Torres!

Pelican throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Torres escapes and throws Pelican's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That was a close round but I would say that Crusty Pelican will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Pelican counters with a shoot takedown. Torres fights it but they end up in guard.

Torres had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Pelican is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Torres Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Pelican's back instead.
