Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luiz Palhares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Benjamin Barkley!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palhares swats away the attempt to clinch by Barkley.
Barkley tries to clinch but Palhares moves out of range.
Barkley tries for a takedown but Palhares sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Palhares fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Palhares fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The fighters circling - Palhares throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Palhares has managed to clinch.
Palhares prevents the takedown attempt.
Barkley tries to score a body lock takedown but Palhares shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Luiz Palhares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benjamin Barkley.

Barkley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Barkley throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Palhares closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Barkley is not content to let Palhares control the position.

Palhares is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barkley has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Palhares is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barkley knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Barkley is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Barkley can't do much from the bottom here.
Palhares trying to control the position but Barkley is working away.
You can see the frustration on Barkley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Barkley tries for a takedown but Palhares circles away easily

and Palhares counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Barkley is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Palhares rolls with it to try and escape but Barkley cranks on the arm and Palhares is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Benjamin Barkley!
