PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Sydal (ranked 2605 p4p, 3193 weight class) and Ching Chong (ranked 314 p4p, 379 weight class). Ching Chong told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dylan Sydal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ching Chong!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chong fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sydal manages to avoid it.

Sydal closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Chong regains half guard.
Chong is pressing down on Sydal's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Chong is pulling down on Sydal's head to control his posture.
Sydal sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Chong's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chong preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Sydal trying to control from half guard but Chong is working away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chong desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Chong is trying to get back to full guard.

Chong is holding on to half guard well.
Chong wants to improve his position but Sydal is controlling well.
Sydal tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chong is trying to get back to full guard.

Chong has Sydal pulled in close to control his posture.
Sydal working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Chong's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chong lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sydal is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Chong looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Sydal is trying to keep Chong in close.
Chong passes Sydal's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Chong wants to pass the guard but Sydal is defending well.
Sydal is trying to get back to full guard.
Chong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Let's hope that Chong has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sydal wants to improve his position but Chong is controlling well.
Sydal is working hard here to advance position.
Chong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sydal won't allow Chong to pass to mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ching Chong will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Chong shoots in and bounces Sydal off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Sydal seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Sydal is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sydal tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chong sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sydal's guard.
Sydal is trying to control but can't.
Chong is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sydal is trying to maintain the position but Chong is very close to passing his half guard.
Chong is looking to advance position but Sydal won't allow it.
Chong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sydal has taken the fight to the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sydal has a couple of punches blocked by Chong.
Chong leaning against his opponent.

Chong has Sydal pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Chong pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sydal tumbling to the mat - Chong dives into Sydal's guard.
Sydal wants to stand and escape but Chong is having none of it.
Chong controls from within his opponent's guard.
Sydal wants to sweep but no luck.
Chong passes into half guard.
Sydal on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sydal tries to get out of the position.
Chong seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Chong tries to pass to full mount but Sydal defends it.
Sydal is trying to stand.
Sydal avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Chong.
Sydal wants to control but Chong is keeping busy.
Chong controlling the pace.
Sydal tries to roll over but Chong keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chong keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Chong darts in and clinches Sydal up against the cage.
Chong will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Sydal up against the cage.
Chong drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sydal gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Chong is stalling here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chong throws a punch but it's blocked by Sydal.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ching Chong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Chong is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sydal's half guard.
Chong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chong wants to free his trapped foot but Sydal is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Chong is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Chong prevents Sydal from improving his position.
Chong looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ching Chong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chong shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Chong was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Chong content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Chong is continuing to stall.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Chong.
Chong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Chong is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sydal knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Chong taking a breather here.
Sydal is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Chong off and has taken his back!
Chong turns into Sydal and is now in his guard.
Chong sitting in guard here, content to control.
Ching Chong has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chong throwing strikes from guard but Sydal blocks nicely.

Chong is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Chong wants to pass the guard but Sydal is keeping the position.

Ching Chong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
