PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pupuki Namasuzuki (ranked 1372 p4p, 1635 weight class) and Mikko Alatalo (ranked 176 p4p, 204 weight class). Namasuzuki comes to the cage accompanied by Stand By Me- Ben King. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pupuki Namasuzuki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mikko Alatalo!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Namasuzuki cracks a nice hook into Alatalo's ribs.
Alatalo just misses with a punch to the body.
Namasuzuki was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Namasuzuki uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alatalo.
Alatalo throws a leg kick but Namasuzuki moved away.
A nice inside leg kick there by Alatalo. That's going to slow Namasuzuki down.
Namasuzuki sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Namasuzuki tries to close the distance and clinch but Alatalo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Alatalo motions for Namasuzuki to come forward. Alatalo throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Alatalo throws a body shot but no joy.
Alatalo ducks under a wild hook from Namasuzuki.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Namasuzuki takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Namasuzuki drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Namasuzuki working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Alatalo tries to escape but Namasuzuki is in control.

Namasuzuki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alatalo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Alatalo manages to get back to half guard.
Alatalo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Namasuzuki content to control rather than advance.

Namasuzuki tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Namasuzuki throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alatalo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Namasuzuki is in Alatalo's guard.
Alatalo is looking to stand back up but Namasuzuki counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Alatalo.

Alatalo is looking to control Namasuzuki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alatalo avoid being mounted?
Namasuzuki keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Namasuzuki looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Alatalo keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Namasuzuki looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alatalo tries to get to full guard but Namasuzuki has control of the leg.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pupuki Namasuzuki will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Namasuzuki cracks Alatalo with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Namasuzuki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Alatalo stops Namasuzuki from passing to mount.
Alatalo trying to control but Namasuzuki flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Namasuzuki gets his hands free as Alatalo looks to control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alatalo really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Namasuzuki's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

Namasuzuki trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Alatalo doesn't escape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Namasuzuki is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Namasuzuki is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Namasuzuki's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Alatalo tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Namasuzuki moves to the back position.
Namasuzuki trying to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Namasuzuki looking to break Alatalo's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Alatalo remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Namasuzuki will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Alatalo feints and then cracks Namasuzuki's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Namasuzuki down.

Alatalo swings wildly with an uppercut but Namasuzuki uses good head movement to avoid it.

Alatalo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Namasuzuki's elbow.
I was talking to Namasuzuki's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Namasuzuki swings wildly with an uppercut but Alatalo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Namasuzuki lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Alatalo tries to break free but Namasuzuki pushes him back against the cage.
Alatalo wants to get back to striking at distance but Namasuzuki won't allow it.
Alatalo looking to throw knees to the head but Namasuzuki is blocking nicely.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Namasuzuki creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Alatalo is trying to maintain a safe position but Namasuzuki gets an underhook and turns Alatalo into the cage.

Namasuzuki lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Alatalo to his knees! Namasuzuki keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
