PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darius Frank (ranked 2153 p4p, 1853 weight class) and Mike Camble (ranked 299 p4p, 265 weight class). Frank comes into the arena with Trapper x Foogiano blaring out of the sound system. The key to victory for Darius Frank has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darius Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Camble!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frank ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Camble drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Frank trying to keep a closed guard but Camble is proving a slippery customer.
Camble preventing the sweep.
Camble with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Frank definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Frank being controlled here, momentarily.
Frank controls Camble momentarily but Camble frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Frank has his foot on Camble's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Camble works his way back into a safe position though.
Camble is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Camble is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Frank has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Camble can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Frank not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Camble is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Camble has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Camble trying to control but Frank is working from the bottom.
Camble chips away with some ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Camble got a little sloppy there for a moment and Frank has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Camble has managed to get both his arms back between Frank's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Camble trying to control but Frank is working from the bottom.
Camble connects with a couple of short punches.
Camble sitting in guard here, content to control.
Let's hope that Camble has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Frank escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Camble gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Camble working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Frank's head.

Frank had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Camble defends it easily.
Camble passes Frank's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Frank is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Camble slows the pace down in half guard.

Camble is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Frank has managed to free his arm - good work.
Frank manages to get to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Camble working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Camble dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Camble takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Frank misses the body punch

and Camble decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Frank's guard.

Camble wants to pass the guard but Frank is keeping the position.

Frank is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Camble presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Frank lands a right hand.
Frank lands with a short shot to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Frank scores with a nice hook to the head.
Frank throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cambles head.
Camble changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Frank fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Frank misses with the combination.
Camble with the counter takedown but Frank avoids it easily.

A looping hook to the body misses from Frank. Camble does a little dance to reset his feet.

Camble drives through with a takedown into guard.
Frank is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Camble trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Camble lands a couple of decent looking shots.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Frank is on top in guard.

Frank stands and throws Camble's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Camble tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Camble is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Camble is trying to control Frank's posture but Frank avoids it.

Camble sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Frank wants to control but Camble is keeping him busy.
Camble trying to hold on to Frank's head to control him but Frank postures up.
Frank tries to stand but can't do so whilst Camble controls his leg.
Frank throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Camble moves into full guard.

Camble is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Camble is looking for a triangle but Frank pushes his legs off easily.

Camble bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Frank's guard.

Frank is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Frank is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Camble defends well.
Camble is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Camble stands up over Frank, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Camble with a nice head shot there.
Camble connects with a couple of short punches.
Camble postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Darius Frank will probably get the nod.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Camble is defended easily by Frank.
Camble tries to close the distance and clinch but Frank swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Camble takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Frank tries to sprawl but Camble drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Camble lands with a punch from half guard.
Frank is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Camble scores with a couple of nice shots.
Frank preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Frank on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Frank is not content to let Camble control the position.

Camble is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Frank defends it well.
Frank wants to control but Camble is keeping busy.

Frank looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Frank has hold of Camble's hands but Camble slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Frank looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Frank tries to roll over but Camble keeps him under control.
Mike Camble has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Camble controlling the pace.

Camble moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Frank.

Camble is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Frank has escaped the position, nice work there.
Camble scores with punches from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Camble is looking to take a break and control but Frank is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Frank is trying to improve his position.
Frank takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Frank is trying to get back to half guard.
Camble working the head with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Camble in side control lands a decent elbow.
Camble trying to control the action but Frank is working from the bottom.
Camble has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Frank!
Camble pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Frank tries to reverse the position but Camble maintains control.
Frank is working hard here to advance position.
Camble working away from the top, dropping strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Camble fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Camble is landing with some decent strikes but Frank is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Camble comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Camble has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mike Camble seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
