PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Francis Hopkins (ranked 4583 p4p, 25020 weight class) and Hitoshi Shinso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shinso has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! The key to victory for Francis Hopkins has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hitoshi Shinso!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shinso takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Hopkins throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Shinso on the side of the head.

Shinso takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Shinso tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shinso tries to move into range but Hopkins moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hopkins slips a jab and a cross from Shinso.
Hopkins swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Francis Hopkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shinso drives through and clinches with Hopkins against the cage.
Shinso jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hopkins walks away with a smile on his face. Shinso gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Francis Hopkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hitoshi Shinso.
Shinso takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shinso dives in for a single leg takedown but Hopkins sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hitoshi Shinso is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hopkins scores with a sloppy right hand. Shinso should have avoided that one.
Shinso has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Shinso there as he acknowledges the shot.
Hopkins lands with an uppercut that bounces Shinso off the cage and back into range.
Hopkins connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Shinso's hands.
Hopkins lands with a straight right. Shinso didn't see that one coming.
Hopkins lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shinso decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hopkins to his feet.
Hopkins lands with a cross.
Jab, jab by Hopkins - just one landing.
Hopkins avoids the head kick by Shinso.

Shinso darts in and clinches Hopkins up against the cage.

Hopkins connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Shinso momentarily.

Shinso has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Shinso feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hopkins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
