PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mariusz Pudzianowski (ranked 4058 p4p, 4651 weight class) and Damian Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mariusz Pudzianowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Damian Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pudzianowski throws a leg kick but Sanchez sees it coming and moves out of range.
Pudzianowski misses with a wild body shot.

Sanchez moves into the clinch successfully.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pudzianowski postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pudzianowski doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pudzianowski manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pudzianowski as he avoids it easily.

Pudzianowski has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sanchez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Pudzianowski jumps guard but Sanchez stands there with Pudzianowski around his waist. Pudzianowski gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Sanchez has his foot on Pudzianowski's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pudzianowski works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sanchez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pudzianowski avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pudzianowski changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sanchez tries to avoid it but Pudzianowski manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sanchez to the ground. Sanchez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pudzianowski tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sanchez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
No luck for Sanchez with that takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Pudzianowski is looking to land body kicks.
Sanchez darts in looking for a takedown but Pudzianowski gets double underhooks and turns Sanchez into the cage.
Pudzianowski defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sanchez.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Pudzianowski looks to throw the jab but Sanchez is out of range.
Sanchez feints the counter takedown.

Pudzianowski takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Pudzianowski keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sanchez's efforts to push away.
Sanchez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Sanchez has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Pudzianowski has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Sanchez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pudzianowski prevents it.

Pudzianowski shoots for a double leg takedown but Sanchez sprawls well. He's pushed Pudzianowski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pudzianowski is not going to allow Sanchez to sit and survive in this position.

Sanchez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pudzianowski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pudzianowski has his opponent's back but Sanchez is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Pudzianowski.

Sanchez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pudzianowski is trying to defend but Sanchez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Damian Sanchez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Damian Sanchez.
