PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Tam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burt Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Tam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Burt Ward!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Ackerman and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Tam moves into the clinch.

Tam has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ward uses from the top position.
Ward wants to pass the guard but Tam is keeping the position.

Tam looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Tam working for a triangle but Ward defends it easily.
Ward trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ward drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ward jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ward stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tam swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tam escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ward gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ward thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Tam looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Ward wants to pass the guard but Tam is keeping the position.

Tam had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ward is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Tam Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ward's back instead.
Tam doesn't have the hooks in and Ward manages to turn into his guard.

Tam wants to improve his position but Ward is controlling well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ward is looking for a kimura here.

Ward stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tam swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ward wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tam, who protects the arm well.
Tam is trying to improve his position.

Ward is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tam is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Tam is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Tam stops Ward from passing to mount.

Tam tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ward wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Ward is looking for a kimura but Tam is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ward to get the leverage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ward stops Tam from getting back to his feet.
Tam gets full guard.

Tam is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ward passes Tam's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ward in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Tam tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Ward!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Burt Ward!
