PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Monthouse (ranked 4601 p4p, 5360 weight class) and Kamomil Pipa (ranked 238 p4p, 257 weight class). Pipa is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: O.S.T.R - Polska Siła. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kamomil Pipa was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dwight Monthouse !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kamomil Pipa!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pipa tries to keep at a distance but Monthouse has taken the fight into the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Monthouse 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nice shot lands for Monthouse .
Monthouse tries to clinch up but Pipa circles away and keeps his distance.
A little jabbing left from Pipa on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Monthouse closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Monthouse breaks the clinch.
Monthouse fails with the takedown
and Pipa counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Monthouse throws a leg kick that is checked
and Pipa counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Monthouse misses with a takedown attempt
and Pipa counters with a stiff right hand.
Monthouse throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pipa now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Pipa ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Monthouse shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pipa pinned against the cage. Pipa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dwight Monthouse . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Monthouse shoots in and drives through. Pipa sprawls well.
Pipa ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Pipa has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

Monthouse forces Pipa back against the cage and clinches.

Pipa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pipa throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Monthouse changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A jab from Pipa misses.
Monthouse closes the distance and clinches up with Pipa, looking for a takedown. Monthouse pushes Pipa against the cage but Pipa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pipa stuffs the takedown.
Monthouse tries a head kick but it misses.
A little jabbing left from Pipa on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Monthouse moves to clinch but Pipa breaks away

and Pipa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pipa.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Pipa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Pipa is looking to work some ground and pound but Monthouse has wrist control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Monthouse seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Pipa content to stall in guard here.
Monthouse trying to keep a closed guard but Pipa is proving a slippery customer.
Pipa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pipa listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Monthouse wants to clinch
and Pipa counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Monthouse tries to clinch but Pipa moves away
and Pipa counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pipa misses with a right hand
and Monthouse counters with a left to the body.
Monthouse has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Monthouse there as he acknowledges the shot.
Pipa misses with a looping left.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kamomil Pipa dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Pipa stuffs the takedown attempt from Monthouse . Monthouse gets slowly back to his feet.

and Pipa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Monthouse won't be happy with that.
Pipa has control of an arm but Monthouse manages to advance to Pipa's back!
Pipa is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Monthouse is hanging on to Pipa's back as he tries to escape.
Monthouse is trying to stick to Pipa's back but Pipa is turning into Monthouse . He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Monthouse 's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Pipa.
Monthouse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Monthouse has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pipa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Monthouse manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pipa manages to get himself to full guard.

Pipa pulls Monthouse in to control the position.

Pipa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Monthouse defends it easily.
Pipa looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Monthouse puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Pipa pushes Monthouse off looking to stand but Monthouse dives back in and keeps control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pipa is trying to control but can't.
Pipa wants to control but Monthouse passes into side.

Monthouse stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Pipa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Monthouse is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Pipa off and has taken his back!

Pipa tries to roll but Monthouse sticks to his back.
Monthouse is looking to control Pipa but Pipa is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Monthouse is trying to stick to Pipa's back but Pipa is turning into Monthouse . He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Monthouse 's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Pipa.

Monthouse thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Pipa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Monthouse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Monthouse misses with a takedown attempt
and Pipa counters with a stiff right hand.
Pipa looks to land a left hand but Monthouse moved out of range nicely.
Monthouse thinks about countering with a body kick.
Pipa sizes up Monthouse with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Monthouse ducks under a wild hook from Pipa.
Pipa stalks Monthouse and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Monthouse 's face. Monthouse staggers backwards, shaken.

Monthouse is rocked!
Monthouse fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Pipa as Monthouse shoots in.

Oh Monthouse is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Monthouse seems to have got his legs back now.
Pipa throws a series of punches but Monthouse avoids them all with ease.

Pipa gets the takedown into side control.
Pipa looks up at the clock and then as Monthouse takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Pipa smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Pipa lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Monthouse down.
Pipa in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pipa's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Monthouse is looking for a sweep.
Pipa working the head and body with strikes.
Pipa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Monthouse tries to bench press Pipa off him but Pipa keeps the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Monthouse parries the strikes from Pipa easily there. Pipa is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Monthouse to escape.
Monthouse is being controlled here.
Let's hope that Pipa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Monthouse pushes Pipa up against the cage in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Monthouse has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pipa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Monthouse jumps guard but Pipa turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Monthouse trying to control the position but instead, Pipa has worked for underhooks and has pushed Monthouse into the cage.

Pipa breaks from the clinch.
Monthouse misses with a low kick.
Pipa avoids the head kick by Monthouse .
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pipa throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Monthouse on the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kamomil Pipa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pipa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
