PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steven Deeny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Vreeland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steven Deeny!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ron Vreeland!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vreeland decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Vreeland seems to be looking for submissions.
Vreeland thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Vreeland tries to pass to full mount but Deeny defends it.
Deeny knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vreeland on the ground.

Vreeland is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Deeny defends it well.
Vreeland has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Vreeland is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Deeny is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Vreeland sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Deeny is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Deeny tries to stand and escape but Vreeland is controlling the position.

Deeny stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Vreeland to get to his feet.
Deeny stalks Vreeland and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Vreeland's face. Vreeland staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Ron Vreeland has been cut.
Deeny tries to close the distance and clinch but Vreeland swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Deeny rushes Vreeland and presses him up against the cage.
Vreeland can't get the takedown.
Vreeland is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Deeny is trying to break free.

Deeny breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ron Vreeland will probably get the nod.

That's time! Deeny's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Deeny moves in looking to clinch but Vreeland pushes him off.

Vreeland shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Deeny's guard.

Vreeland drops back, looking for a kneebar! Deeny looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Deeny looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Deeny!
Deeny wants to stand but Vreeland has his arm trapped.
Vreeland is trying to work for a sweep but Deeny has mounted him!

Deeny stands up from mount. Strange move.

Vreeland looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Deeny!
Deeny is trying to stand up.
Vreeland is breathing heavily.

Vreeland has control of Deeny's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Deeny regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Vreeland swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Deeny is now in Vreeland's guard. A big mistake from Vreeland there, giving up the dominant position!

Vreeland isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Deeny stacks Vreeland on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Deeny!

Deeny stands up and beckons Vreeland to his feet.

Deeny catches Vreeland with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Deeny wants to clinch.

Vreeland is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Deeny is just riding it out for now. Vreeland eventually gives up the hold.

Vreeland is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Deeny doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Vreeland.
Deeny tries to kick Vreeland off but Vreeland keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vreeland not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Vreeland with the ground and pound but Deeny uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Vreeland has gone for a leg lock! Deeny slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vreeland's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ron Vreeland will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Vreeland changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Deeny looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Vreeland has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Deeny is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Vreeland yanks on the arm and Deeny is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Vreeland.
