PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Goodwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duran has chosen Still Fly as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Austin Duran looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Duran!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duran shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Goodwin as he jumps to the side.
Duran looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Duran takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Goodwin wants to clinch up but Duran keeps it at a distance.
Goodwin lands a head kick that stumbles Duran and the fighters go to the mat.

It looks like Austin Duran has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Goodwin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Goodwin wants to stand but Duran is controlling his posture from full guard.
Goodwin advances to half guard.
Goodwin wants to take a breather but Duran is having none of it.
Duran won't allow Goodwin to pass to mount.
Nice strikes from Goodwin there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Goodwin drops an elbow to the side of Duran's head.

Goodwin slips a nice elbow through Duran's hands, connecting with Duran's forehead.
Duran won't allow Goodwin to pass to mount.
Goodwin is keen to just control but Duran is a slippery customer.
Goodwin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Goodwin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Duran does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Goodwin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Goodwin wants to stand but Duran has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Duran won't allow Goodwin to pass to mount.
Goodwin is keen to just control but Duran is a slippery customer.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Goodwin connects with a high kick.
Goodwin lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Goodwin lands a head kick. Duran smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Goodwin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Goodwin has Duran pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Duran manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Duran tries for a takedown. No joy.
Duran wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Goodwin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Goodwin scores with a nice head shot.

Duran drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Duran won't allow Goodwin to sweep him here.
Duran is standing up over Goodwin. Goodwin looks to escape but Duran dives into side control.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Duran looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Duran working away.
Goodwin takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Goodwin tries to bench press Duran off him but Duran keeps the position.
You can see the frustration on Goodwin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Goodwin is looking to reverse the position.
Duran wants to control for a moment but Goodwin uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Goodwin is stalling here. Duran is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Goodwin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Duran has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Goodwin struggling a bit here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Goodwin stuffs the takedown.
Steven Goodwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Austin Duran.
Goodwin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Duran changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Goodwin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Duran scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Goodwin to see if he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Goodwin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Goodwin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Goodwin tries to control but Duran wriggling away.
Goodwin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Duran on the ground.
Goodwin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Duran is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Duran tries to lock up and control but Goodwin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Duran in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Goodwin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Goodwin landing punches.
Goodwin trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Duran can't escape the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Goodwin lands a big elbow.
Goodwin trying to control but Duran is having none of it.
Duran's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Goodwin with shots to the head and body - Duran looks very uncomfortable down there.
Duran slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Duran is looking to improve his position.
Goodwin looks to land a strike but Duran avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Duran is looking to stand up but Goodwin isn't so interested in that idea.

and Goodwin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Goodwin.
Goodwin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Goodwin has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Duran to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Goodwin is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Duran pulls down on the head and he's put Goodwin to sleep! This one is all over!
